put a rubber on the male platies' gonopodium.....
Hi,
I bought 5 red platy in my planted tank a month ago. This to to add more red to my tank.
But the problem is that they are really efficient live bearer. Now, i had nearly 30 of them in my tank.
5 - from the start
3 - medium size
over 10 - smaller size
over 10 - infant
What can i do to control this so that my tank will not get too densely populated?
I may have an adoption soon.
Thks.

why I don't do garden hybrids and aquarium strains: natural species is a history of Nature, while hybrids are just the whims of Man.

If you've learnt, teach, if you have, give.
Don't walk behind me as I might not lead, don't walk in front of me as I might not follow. Walk beside me, as my friend.
Mohamad Rohaizal is my name. If it's too hard, use BFG. I don't mind.
Predatory fish like Angelfish and Betta can make a meal of of them.

Hi
Thks for all the "constructive suggestions".
I may give some away after the New Year.
Putting predator to eat the infants are definitely out of the question.
My Mum will be angry cause she likes them so much and i feel bad to do it as well.
Anyone want to adopt them as live surface skimmer?
maybe reduce the feeding to once every few days.
with less food available, i guess their desire to produce offspring will be reduced as well.
easiest would be putting them up for adoption.
i wouldn't mind a male platy if you are willing to spare one.....been looking around for a male for the past week.....

It is also call Moon Fish. Go to the other shop on the same block as C328. They sell them in plastic bag, ~10 fro $2. The red/black variety.
Hi Gan,
The red/black platies are not the pure breed. Hence, they are pretty cheap.
You can ask the C328 aunty for the similar type but totally blood red. The cost is around 50cent each. Remember to pick both male and female if you want your platies to have a healthy growth.
Anyway, i have given up the 5 adults to my dad's small pond outside. Will have an adoption once my remaining platies grow bigger. Now, it will be pretty difficult to catch them. :P
Thks for all the PM.

Any idea where I can get the Black, Blue and Orange platis ?
I saw platys on sale at Rainbow at Serangoon, beside Petmart. But I think pretty ex at $1 or more, can't remember exactly... that shop really has a huge number of tanks selling fish, but their prices seem more ex than other LFS...
Hi
No comment on the price.
But there is once they are having a buy 1 get 1 free sale.
But you must choose wisely cause some are still ex during this promotion.
I bought a few oto at $2 each. This means one only cost $1.
While my friend bought quite a number of yamato shrimps at $1 each.
This mean one only cost $0.50.
hope they have this kind of promotion more often.
Thks.
Promotion is good, do update if there's promotion ok?
