Bros, im thinking of having hairgrass for my new tank. I need them to be short, no more than 3cm cos im just using a 1 footer.

    * What sort of hairgrass do you recommend? Seems like the main choice is Dwarf hairgrass. (i dont like jap hairgrass cos it looks abit messy)
    * Will the hairgrass remain short, or does it require trimming?

Hope im not sounding silly, but I hope to have a hairgrass that remains short...

    Re: Short hairgrass FAQ

    Hi gid,

you can try Dwarf Hairgrass/Jap hairgrass. They are shorter but not below 3cm.
The only way is keep trimming after they rooted, to induce faster sprouting of new plants and keep the level low & nice.

P.S: use a cup to let the trimmed end get flowed in, it's much better then picking them out LOL.

    tks bro.

how much/often is trimming required to keep dwarf hg short?

i get very stressed by trimming, cant deal with the thought of having loose grass floating all over!

Japanese hairgrass grows with the leaf ends curling down, so it will be ideal for you.

Trimming is essential in our hobby!
