Hi fellows. I'm transferring a bunch of frogbits from an old, dirty tank to a new one. Their roots have grown long & accumulated/trapped a lot of grime from the old tank. Instead of washing the roots, may I trim them (& will they grown back)? If so, till how short may I trim the roots?
Bro...frog bits roots looks Abit messy somehow will also block the views.
Try putting mini Lettuces instead...
Short roots and they look nicer...
If you want...pm me...I can give it to you free.

Bro,
Of course the roots can be trimmed. I have trimmed mine every 2 to 3 weeks.
I trimmed till it is 1.5 to 2 inche.
It will grow back very fast if your tank's water condition is good.
Ken
Thank you for your quick response
Actually I find FrogBits look nice, i.e. because their leaves are not so small & they do not spam themselves. But I understand the "block-the-view" aspect, i.e. their leaves are flat against the water surface.
I don't mind trying; but does mini lettuce have a reputation for attracting (flying) insects?
That's a wonderful gesture of you. I only saw mini lettuce being sold at one LFS in the West, & even that shop has moved. May I know how I can collect from you?
I took out my frogbits & collect them in a container of "clean" (not dechlorinated) water for a couple of days before migrating them into the destination tank. For some reasons, all the longer, brown roots dropped off by themselves, leaving the short ones intact.
