Apart from Hong Yang who stock them from time to time, anyone knows whether there any other LFS who stock regularly or any recent sightings of this fish?

    Thanks

Not that I heard of but I think JZX stocked them a while ago.

Not rare, just uncommon. The LFS never get females, it's almost always 100% males. So how to breed them at home if there's no females to buy?

Are these Sawbwa? Just got them from Wu Hu. They're labelled as Scissortail Rasbora & their pretty skinny & plain white.

Yes, those are Sawbwa resplendens, albeit not in very good shape.

The alternative trade name is Asian Rummynose. You have all males there. Do note, this species can be a little aggressive towards smaller fish. When in good shape, the body will show a bluish silver tone.

Yeah, I was expecting Asian Rummynose, but Wuhu naming it Scissortail Rasbora is kinda off.

Anyway, so far they're quite shy, molested by the Honey Gourami using their feelers & even chased by oto
Its just I don't expect them to be this big, most websites listed them as 1", but the ones I got looks about 2".

Each time C328 has them, they're a little smaller. Yours probably need to fatten up. They are very active fishes when in good condition, zipping around the tank. Females are more yellowish with a clear black spot at the anal region, and no marking on the nose and tips of the tail.

About 2-3 weeks in my tank, is this considered healthy color already?

Yes in excellent shape there hencpu. It's good that you have a few. I had just 1 piece left after the rest died off from old age. It kept chasing the smaller fish around until it itself died from old age.

It is unfortunate that you don't have females, because this fish is worth breeding just to watch their spawning antics. I think the male you have in the pic is already in breeding condition.

You can see a pic of the female at this link: http://www.mijnalbum.nl/GroteFoto-JDLWQFFR.jpg

Some young males may try to look like the females.

Thanks, stormhawk. I hope I can keep them that long too. I initially bought 5, but the next few days I lost 3 of them consecutively. All died in nosedive position & stuck in the stem plants. I don't know what happened to them, either they were severely malnourished or being killed by dominant male.

No wonder shops rarely take females, ok, I'll try to look for them.

I remember seeing this species at Qian Hu, but I think it's all males.

    Re: Sawbwa Resplendens is rare?

Just bought a batch from LFS Hong Yang at CCK. The few I bought are now swimming happily in my quarantine tank.. very healthy looking.. no sunken stomach. I think there are a few female in that batch.
