    Hi guys

I am facing some brown hair algae problem on my christmas moss .. Hope that i am right in identifying the Algae .. My tank has no CO2, running on 25 watt T5 and 2224 ehiem filter.. I tried to do a water change of 30% before but the problem still exist .. It seemed that the more i tried to remove, the messy it looks and the longer it grows .. The tank is newly set up, about 2 months and the amount of food i feed is like 3 days once and in very very little portion as my CRS seemed to have plenty of natural food in the tank ..

Today i bought 4 coloured shrimps and 2 nerite snails . I wonder if they will help ? What should i do to reduce the algae and yet not to affect the crs as many were berried .. I had an external tank with frogbits, mini lettuce and hornworts .. Alot of them stuffed in that external tank (Hang on) .. My idea is that it will act as a filter to suck out all the nitrate ..

Use a toothbrush to remove them.
It will be a weekly routine.
How many hours of lighting are you giving to the tank???

Bro maybe you want to get those 24 hour switch plug. It's less than $20.00 You set the amount of hours to switch it on. Can get from homefix. So you don't need to bother about being home or asleep.

Just make sure you tell your family; when the lights comes on don't switch it off. It'll auto off by itself once you set the time for it.

If you're looking for cheaper, get from Ikea.

I'm using one for my lights and the other for the CO2.

    Thank bro

What is the desire timing for my tank ? I had everything right .. except the algae ... Although they are food source, they are a pain in the eyes .. 4 hours ? or 6 hours?

Too much light, Too little CO2, how big is your tank? can you take a full picture of your tank.

Don't think your tank has nitrate, because it is a new tank. Nitrate is limited. More like nitrite, ammonium & ammonia if you are lucky to have bacteria to break it down

The algae reflected that your tank is very unbalance

Get a fast growing plant to help absorb excess nitrates and phosphate. Eg. Water sprite etc....

    Re: Algae Help

do not use excel, because it will kill your moss as well.

Put Yamato shrimps (say 10) it should clear it in no time. Do post your tank specification, it might be something else went wrong.

    Re: Algae Help

I got another cure for it.

Yamato cant seem get rid of it.

Clear as much as possible, do a water change 80% straight after it. Off lights co2 and stop dosing for 3-4 days. My brown hair algae is 99% gone.
