    Hi Guys,

Just did a test on my No3 and was very shock to see the color that turned out. Anyone can teach me how to lower the level?

Another problem is I tried frogbits and lettuce in the past but most of them died. I only on the light maybe 3 - 4 hours at night.

Please provide Tank parameters, Plant list, fauna list, a picture of the tank will be helpful

Correct me if i am wrong, your tank NO3 should be around 20(colour from picture may differs)... What shrimp are you keeping? mine is 40 with FR,Yamato and Malayan ...no problem at all

To reduce No3 immediately, do a simple WC.

    to reduce NO3 using plants
    • add in fast growing stem plants like hornwarts, rotala series like rotala indica, polyspermas...
    • add floating plants like frogbits, duckweeds, salvania etc

my tank's no3 was down to 0 after 2 weeks of introducing these nitrate suckers.

Note all plants need at least 6-8 hours of light, best is continuous for 8 hours straight. Some people even go for 10 hours straight but it depends on individual.

Check out my Blog on planted tank, good for newbies ( i am lazy to retype all the info i know, so please click and read below link... i hope you don't fall asleep while reading)

One way is like all the above suggestion or you try distill water change like 2 times a weeks. Its likely due to high ammonia contribution. I use distill water to to reduce it down before.

Use the distil water. You can get it cheap from NTUC (Life), Shop and Save (House Brand).

Get at least 4 bottles, use the red market trolley to push it back home. They are 1.5L each.

Do water change when you need it. Not when you want it. So your TDS measurement should guide you. 100 in general. I do not have the chemistry background to advice you further than this. Watch your PH, GH and TDS value, they should guide you properly. KH is buffer for PH, how fast it swings.

This article may be useful to you. Whether for new read up but I suspect you should be just revising.

Well. im pretty new to this hobby as well, but i would believe a water change would be useful. Plus maybe add afew more low maintenance plants such as the various mosses which would help to take in the nitrate.=)

If your nirate is at that level i would say 5% twice within a week (if you are worried about Water change too often stress your shrimps than use a 2 litres bottle to gauge) 2 Litres out 2.5 litres in. Should bring it down. Just monitor till it reach the comfortable level for you before you revert to your normal Water change regiment.
