what is the tank dimension and what kind of light are you using? How about trimming the glosso down a bit, push them deeper into the gravel after that.
Hi all,
My glosso lawn are growing, spreading wild and when there is no place to spread, they just grow upwards.
I saw others tank, glosso are damn low near the gravel. Mine is growing like 3" - 4" tall.
Any comments?

how much light do you have, looks like they're just under the light intensity threshold. Also they're off to one side of the tank, try to get the light shifted over to that side of the tank.

hi all,
i am using 2 x 55w PL for a 3ft tank
Over powered?

wattage is enough, but make sure it is over the area where the glossos are. There is very little coverage at the end of the tube so to the plant that area is total darkness
on the other hand, can also use a pincer to shove the growing head into the gravel. don't worry they wouldn't die, they'll find their way out again and hopefully crawl.

Thanks for all the response.
I guess the problem now is they grow too dense and too tall.
Plantbie,
I've tried growing glosso last time but it turned out just like yours. and having to replant them stalk by stalk gives me a backache.
Now, i've given up on them!
But i hope the link below helps!

All the best,

Thanks zulnaldo.
The problem i have here is overgrown and not that they dun grow.
I guess i might be giving up Glosso soon..
Any nice foreground plants to recommend?

Everyone seem to have problem with glosso... you light 1 set of 2x55W? where is the light align? more to the front or back? I used to have 2x36W in my 3ft tank align to the front. the glosso are always spreading, only growing taller in the shade.
Now I reduce my front lighting to 1x55W, the problem came. Glosso start to thicken! usually about 1cm tall now coming to 3cm tall and root are growing about the gravel... abit unsightly!
under 2 x 36W nice thin layer of glosso
under 1 x 55W Thick layer of glosso... and not spreding when I remove left portion.
Baby Steel!
The glosso looks nice to me growing that way.
In my previous 110L tank, I had 144W over it. And the Glosso stayed low.
I would suggest more light is needed.

From my limited experience planting glosso, I feel that glosso (or even APPs), will THICKEN somehow.
That means, even if they start to carpet nicely with all the strong lightings given, they will reach a point where they have no further space to roam and such, they thicken.
That's when some trimmings are needed.
Guess i will do a major haircut for the glosso to near the root.

Have no experience with glosso. from word of mouth, to grow glosso - firstly lighting is important and make sure that they are not shaded. next, it is the temperature - they are slow grower, therefore they are great place for algae to settle if water is warmer than 28 degrees. And they demand sufficent CO2, which will keep algae at bay too.
IMO, I will try glosso after I am good at other 'easier' plants.

Glosso needs to be trained to grow right. When they grow vertically, you train it by trimming right above the leaf node that is closest to the gravel. When the new sprout grows, it will go horizontally since the old stem is in the way.
