6 months ago I set up my first planted tank with JBL aqua basic+ substrate in between the gravels. Am now thinking of moving, plants and all, to a slightly bigger tank (from 3.3ft to 4 ft). Can I recycle the mixed gravel and substrate to the new tank? Should I lay another layer of substrate in between the gravel again? Appreciate any advise.

I think that will be perfectly alright. Many times, after replanting and planting, the fert layer will mix with the gravel over time anyway.

you can do this for new tank:

    top layer = sand.
    middle layer = basefert+sand mix
    bottom layer = base fert

Thks for the advise. Another thought.... if one were to dose the tank regularly with liquid fertiliser, would you need the base fert?
