i'm interested in setting up a tank for figure 8 or green puffer. Population around 3-5 of them..It is more on freshwater, brackish or saltwater habitat? Read up a little and is confused.

The tank should be a 1.5ft cube and will be having stones inside as decoration.
I won't be getting a co2 thus, there will be no plants.. Or should I add some plants inside the tank?
What kind of sand substrate should I get too? Do I need a heater as well? My living room temperature is around 26-28.. Temperature will drop to 20-23 if I switch on the air-conditional.

The tank will be running on a hang-on canister (with 2 trays) ..

I put my 6 juvenile puffers in a two feet tank, puffers are very curious creatures so make sure you buy a lot of ornaments and plants. Make sure you change the aquascape once in a while to keep them interested. When they grow bigger they will need a bigger tank of course.

Also for small juvenile puffers (less than two inch) salt gravity / salinity should be around 1.005—1. 008. Make sure you use marine salt rather than aquarium (freshwater) salt!

    Feeding :
Preferably snails the size of their eyes to keep their teeth in shape
If not, their teeth will keep growing and causes health concerns in the long run.
Otherwise, prawn meat, mealworms, ghost shrimp work perfectly fine too.

Feed once a day 6 days a week. 3 puffers can share about one mealworms, so take note.

Hope I am of help and good luck in breeding your puffers. Update us!
