Yes they are. It is best to cover them no matter what is the water level. Best is to be safe than sorry.
Hi all just to check, I have a pair of Fundulopanchax garderi nigerianus "innidere".
I've notice on 2 occasions the female jumped out of the tank, luckily I manage to notice it early and quickly put her back in the tank. There is 2 inch gap from the water to filling to the brim. No issues with the male so far. So just to find out are they prone in jumping? So far the female is more prone in jumping out.

Hey Fishy!!! Your So Fine; Your So Fine; You Blow My Mind
Ongoing Food Cultures: Vinegar Eels; Grindal Worms; Microworms; and hopefully more
May I know, what causes them to jump? My tank is 1.3ft x 1.3ft cube. So deep yet it likes to come up to surface and ending up jumping out of tank.
hmm, it's their natural instinct to jump to get out of danger and in the wild they will jump from pond to pond or stream.
The female jumps because the male can be a hard driver when it comes to spawning. Sometimes the males will attack or nip at the females, which is part of their behavior. However, they are not highly aggressive fish. Adding more plant cover and floating plants may give the female more space to hide from the attention of the male.
Fish.. Simply Irresistable
Back to Killies... slowly.
Thanks for the advice Stormhawk bro!
