Hi, welcome to this forum. would also like to see your current setup maybe you could create a thread and post some pictures there.
It's a 9-gallon tank with a filter that hangs on the back.
While cycling, we couldn't decide if we'd get bamboo shrimp (aka mountain shrimp aka singapore shrimp aka many other names) or crayfish.
In the meantime, we got a few cheap plants, knowing that they'll be crayfish food if we settle on crayfish.
In the end, kids helped to decide when they were mesmerized by some white P. Clarkii.
Also got 6 cherry barbs.
I knew the crayfish might attack the cherry barbs. Was actually hoping to see some feeding frenzy, but so far, no casualties.
Maybe when they grow bigger...
I also knew that they might attack each other. I figure I'd let nature take its course or separate them, depending on how it turns out.
There's been some sparring, but no damage.
Now, waiting to see how much plant the crayfish consume, to decide if I'll continue adding cheap plants as food, or just stick with sinking shrimp pellets.
Pictures later. It's dinnertime now.
Hi Yvonne,
Just revived my interest in fish this year after and got 4 white P clarkii in january and unfortunately, the youngest female didn't survive her first molt. T_T
The other 3 are doing well (about 4 inches now) and so far all the fish they've eaten were a few sick tetras which were hovering near the surface in the cray's territories. Your barbs should be safe.
Regarding plants, my java ferns, fiddisen and hornworts were completely destroyed within weeks by the 3 hungry crays, but my anubias and Selaginella (spike moss) were completely untouched, so I rescaped with those. Maybe you can consider.
My crays like to eat boiled veg - cucumber, potato, spinach and others, and also algae tablets / wafers. Think they kind of grew sick of sinking pellets (hikari crab cuisine) and frozen bloodworms, though its still their staple. One even started chewing on my driftwood. Strangely some brave sakura shrimp have paraded themselves in front of my crays and they didn't even budge! I treat them to a bit of boiled fishmeat once in a while, but just a bit so that the water won't foul.
just my 2 cents worth... nice pics in the gallery!

That's great! You're 4 months ahead of me with white P. Clarkii.
Can learn from you.
I didn't want to get any fish that sleep on the bottom, in case they get attacked. I thought cherry barbs would have a fighting chance at least.
Based on reading other posts on various forums, it sometimes depends on the personalities of the individual crays.
(Like I had a betta that did so well in community tank. It was the shy one).
Yeah, I think they have preference for different types of plants.
They LOVE the java moss on my driftwood.
I might spoil them though, by getting more for them to gobble up.
quite a few experienced cray keepers in this forum, it seems. i'm a newbie too!
yup and my crays are weird. they actually socialize. at least the 2 females do. haha
I bought a red one for me son lately too...
Phyxated and kermit13sg - Can you tell me what size are your crayfish tanks?
I am using the UP easy tank bought from Seaview. I think it is about 20cm by 25cm.
mine is 4ft X 1.5ft X 1.5ft
Thanks, both!
we added one blue and 2 puffer fishes yesterday. This morning left one puffer fish. Red and blue did fight a lot but both still alive. Created enough partitions for them but they just love to invade each others' hideout.
Hi kermit13sg, what pufferfish did u add into your tank and what are you feeding them?
I've always known that pufferfish need to eat crustaceans like clams and snails and CRAYFISH and will bite shells.
curious if puffers and crays can coexist.
