Can't really compare. The 2 operate differently, one is water flows through, the other is pushed through.

Hi all,
I would like to have your comments on the comparison between TOTTO S and HAGEN AquaClear 50(or lower) for a 2ft Shrimp tank.
HAGEN, (approx $60)

Hi cheetf,
I apologise, but I do not quite understand what you mean by water flowing/pushed through.
Could you please share with me what it means? Sorry, as it is my first time going through HOFs in particular.
Thank you.
PS: Will the difference of the water being flow/push through be an important factor in shrimp keeping in particular? Or even a difference of housing Beneficial Bacteria?

Totto is actually a hang on canister and I would choose the totto as the totto fully use all of the medias in the filter but prices is different also

The totto is like xconnect says a hang on canister. In a canister a pump is used to push water through the media with some pressure.
In the Hagen it flows through without pressure, a pump is used draw water up to the filter, the water is then channeled through media as it overflows back into the tank.
Pushing pressurized water through will make sure water passes through all of the media and not just skim through the surface of media. As such with the same amount of media in both filters, it should be more effectively used in the canister. That is my take, bros please feel free to correct this.

Hello Mod genes,
The thread created was posting in respect towards a 2ft shrimp tank's HOF, I hope this isn't a big error on my part to post it here.
Please let me know if it is, and I will not make a similar error again, thank you.
Hello cheetf,
Thanks for taking time to explain, and I understand what you mean now. And regarding the matter of water being forced through, am I right to assume that it is because of the double tight lid of TOTTO?
This is mainly because I have not actually seen an actual TOTTO HOC(canister) in action so far.. And of cause also assuming that AquaClear works like any other HOF from videos etc.
Cost-wise is honestly quite a big difference, and it feels quite obvious that quality does come with it =)

It is a canister that is why it has to have a double tight lid to contain the pressure.

Understood, thank you cheetf.
As a totto filter user myself, other than the filtration aspects which I am totally satisfied, the only down side that I feel about this filter, especially used for shrimp keeping, is its inability to be connected to a chiller. In short, this filtration is not suitable for keeping bee shrimps as their need for cooler waters.
