Hi all. Was thinking of stocking up some DIY dry ferts. This is my first time trying to obtain dry ferts. Been using the commercial ones for quite some time and its burning a hole in my pocket . Can any experts guide me on what to purchase and such? thanks! Most of them should be obtainable from pharmacy right? If so, which should i buy?

My friend, I would suggest you look for local places that sells hydroponics ferts instead of pharmacy.
Do a google and you'll be able to find one easily. NA at Thomson also sells these dry ferts from the same supplier

Actually, what's the benefits of using dry fertilizers over the conventional liquid fertilizers? Is it to maintain the redness in the plants? How to dose them dry fertilizers, i.e. have to grind into powder and mix into some tank water first? How to calculate dosage quantity for water column?

    Just a reference.

Think there are few more threads. About the ones we can get online, unfortunately Starhub is still having no action and I cannot surf Aq while at home & work is busy.

Not necessary, dry fert does not mean you have to do 50% every week. It is depend on how much you dose it.

Its easier to dose fert in dry fert form for EI dosage. The dry ferts looks like salt..no grinding required.

However,EI also means overdose the tank with fertilizer which boost plants growth, not recomended for shrimp or sensitive fish keepers.

Normal off-shelves fert works well for most cases.Dry fert is not cheap too...

Yes,for EI..a weekly 50% WC to reset the tank.

alright, noted. Initially i was thinking of getting Wondergro Fert products, used them quite some time ago and the growth was good but abit hard to grab on them these days

P.S: The tank's empty, its just heavily planted with no livestock currently

Still in the bag,lol as i am still trying to finish my seachem phosphorus.

TS, you may wanna order from overseas online websites for dry fertilizer you need as its cheaper in long run. Second option is to use lushgrow range as they are quite concentrated.

    Notes to all:
    • Plants need time to grow, there is no wonder fertilizer, and you won't see results overnight..
    • Dry fertilizer can be used as an alternative to "over the shelf" fertilizer but you need to control the dosage.
    • Dry fertilizer is not as cheap as you think...esp in LFS or hydroponics supplier.
    • Its better to research more prior trying EI and understand the pro & cons involved,i do agree its good for plants but definitely not for shrimp or sensitive fish keepers.

    Recommend you visit this site:
    http://www.singaporehydroponics.com/...d=69&Itemid=75
Their outlet is open on Sunday.
NA Thomson might carry some of these as well.

    Get these 3 essential items:
    Calcium Nitrate CaNO3
    Potassium dihydrogen phosphate K2HPO4
    LushGro Micro

Don't really need K2SO4 if you use Seachem Equilibium at water change.
Look for an online fert calculator to help the dosage amount.
