Hi, I have a 2 feet planted tank which is about 40cm deep, with 2 x T5 light tubes. Whenever I turn on both T5 tubes, I get alot of green spot algae both on the tank walls and on my water sprite within a few days. However, when I turn on only 1 tube, some of my plants start to turn yellow. What should I do?

green spot algae, i have them too.
Stabilize your CO2 (are your injecting any?) and don't worry about them too much. scrape your wall once in a while after you stablise your Co2.

    That works for me..

your tank is quite deep. are your lower lying plants getting enough light?

Unfortunately i don't have a way to completely eliminate the GSA.

Yes, my tank sits near a window, but I cover the side that faces the window with styrofoam. I'm injecting CO2 at 1 bubble per 3-4 seconds. The thing I'm worried is that my plants seems to need more light, but when I turn on more light, alot of GSA start to appear, even on my water sprite, which is a fast growing plant.

Will increasing the CO2 to 1bps prevent GSA from growing? I desperately need a solution to my GSA problem. I've tried dosing extra phosphates, but it doesn't seem to help.

Always look into CO2 first then nutrient.
If already have good light, 9 out of 10 is CO2 not enough.
The plant can't consume the PO4 you add if they are carbon limited.

It's normal to have some green spot algae, one of the solution is to get some nerite snails, they are quite good at eating them. I presume you also have some algae eating fish such as Oto in the tank?

    Re: Light and Algae Problem

I've some nerite snails, but they don't make any noticeable dent on the spot algae. I've cut down the lights to 6 hours now, and that helped a bit, but I still get alot of spot algae.
