    Hi everyone,

I had made a DIY moonlight system to test out for a 2ft tank. Preparing to make one for my 4 ft tank as well..... Main component , super bright blue LEDs

Watch this thread for the URL link to my DIY moon light page.....

    *Horrors!!*

I 'd advise you to be on the look-out for piscine lycantropy - signs include a fixation on lunar emissions, formation of pack behaviour, furrier looking fish, and attempts to snap at the hand that feeds them...... above all, avoid species prone to such tendencies, e.g. dovii cichlids, "wolf" tetras, and dose some silver beads in the tank as a precaution....

Gasp!! this hobby already has horrors like bloodsucking catfish, slime-sucking fish, and Frankenfish made up of parts from different Central American cichlids....... now we are going to have "Wolfish"!!!

Wiring trunking can stretch across a 4 ft tank to provide support for LEDs and other components (E.g fans) . It's also prevent water from getting onto the components especially after I seal it with silicone.

    For a 4 ft I might do a 3 LEDs - 3 LEDs - 3 LEDs combo.

Purple looks ugly to me... perhaps I will use 2 Blue + 1 white.

I put my leds into a plastic tube, then seal off both ends using rubber table feet, hole at one end for electrical wire. The whole thing is attached to wall using rubber sucker and clip, can be turned easily to adjust lighting angle, reasonably waterproof, even placed underwater for few days, but then water seeped through slowly.

Why use punctuation? See what a difference it makes:

A woman: without her, man is nothing.

ok, I just had to throw this out for everyone.
I have seen a lot of posts as far nighttime lighting in tanks..here's my cheap easy solution that is working well in all 5 of my tanks so far.
    www.jcwhitney.com
look for the small(4-5 inch) exterior decorative car lighting(basically 3 small bulbs in a tube) , they come with all mountng hardware.
pick whatever number of lights you think you may need, these guys run about 5 bucks for the small ones.
Most people(that are like me) have a few basic 12 volt wall transformers that can supply the power for the lighting.
    Wire up and VIOLA...its' done
I managed to do all of my lights(blue in 2 and red in 3) for under 50 bucks and I put small toggle switches so I could regulate the amount of light...a simple, cheap fix and great for the DIYer

Emm... aren't this in US ? Price wise is about 34 SGD for the 6 LEDs ?

    http://www.jcwhitney.com/webapp/wcs/...;storeId=10101

Is the LEDs super-bright(think it is) ? Or are you refering to the colour-painted halogen bulbs( cost around 3 USD)?

Anyway the LEDs I am using have a lifespan of 20 years.... and use only 0.6 watts of power and cost me about 6.5 singapore dollars.....

The 4 ft version costing me about 15 SGD for 12 LEDs and components after discount, and runs at 1.8 watts....

Of course any 12 Volts adapter is still an overkill, my 500mA supply can actually runs 40 LEDs... But the brightness will probably keep the fishes awake
