Which stem plant? Some which have thick roots just trim the roots.
Those without like ludwigia, rotala. I just trim to desired length and plant

I was kind of meaning, "in general".
Why need to trim the roots?
You do not trim them until they are very short?
Btw, what about creeping plants like Hydrocotyle sibthorpioides? How does one plant them? i.e. bury as much of the runners as possible?
Roots I was speaking in the view. Not at mid/background but rather at the ones with thick roots like crypto family.

Is it because they (the plant farms) simply do "topping", i.e. trimmings from the top of the plant, to create packages for sale?
Secondly, what about fore-ground (but non-carpeting) plants, e.g. downoi, staurogyne & those from the Eriocaulon group? they do come with roots right?
Never try eriocaulon but downoi and staurogyne also no root when you buy fresh delivery.
yes just bury the lower part
