This algae seems to just grow on driftwood and produce oxygen. My horn snail, cherry and amano shrimps dont seems to touch it. I also have green dot algae currently.

It should be mould. Quite common complain actually.
By right Yamato should like it, unless your feeding your Yamato.
If it is, stop feeding a few days see if they budge anot.

For GSA, if it is a minimum. Leave it as it is a good sign that your tank is under control.

    Yup, looks like mold.

You're asking about CRS in the algae section, hahaha, not likely to get an answer

This kind of mold is normally found in new tank, so I'm assuming the tank is not well cycled yet?

    Re: ID Algae

i see. i thought of asking crs question since thinking them could be related.
amano and cherry still not touching it :\

external canister was move from 1ft tank to new 3ft tank about 6 month back. The mold only shows up 2 months back with the driftwood even after I have boil and wash the wood.

    Re: ID Algae

Mold are not very popular food, so I think it'll be easier to just remove and wash it off the wood.
Try posting your CRS questions in the invertebrates forums, but I think many of the answers are already there...you just have to do some reading

    Re: ID Algae

Sorry to hijack. I have the same white substance growing on my hc cuba and some other plants. Would it affect the health of the plants? Is it present because of nutrient or co2 related issues akin to algae problem?

    Re: ID Algae

hey odin same as my picture?
I have been reading that this white mold is harmless.

Furthermore, I have done some testing and conclude that amano will only touch it when they are really staving.
What I did was to isolate some amano shrimp into a tank divider with little plant and added some 'hand pick' white mold.
Amano will first attack algae on plant and then the white mold. As for those driftwood with the mold, they dont touch it as there are plenty of algae/ shrimp food for their choice.

I do believe if I will to do few days of black out to reduce the algae food source plus no feeding, these white mold should reduce to nothing.
Hope this information is helpful to anyone who face the same problem

You can cut up a black rubbish bag into a big sheet. If still not big enough, join two pieces with scotch tape. It can be bought at those heartland household items shops, but comes in packets of many.

    Re: ID Algae

    some updates.
Done blackout for about 2.5 days. Slight reduce of white mold is observed like 10% gone.
Likely due to sufficient food build up in algae / micro organisms, which result to less interest in the mold.

I had only released 2 amano shrimp to try this out. 1 rcs dead not sure if it is due to amano shrimp turn aggressive due to lack of food or just lack of food.

May consider to try ottos, anyone have any experience if they take care of these white mold well?

    Re: ID Algae

My 2ft tank had this white mold outbreak covering 2 out 3 DWs before
And Amano just does not help at all. Almost certain Otto didnt either.
    (5amano + 5otto as commandos)

Believe it or not, after adding (10) Fire Reds, the problem was resolved under a week.
They seemed to enjoy munching on the white mold.
    What tank for lazy man?

    Re: ID Algae

I have few amano and rcs shrimp but the white mold keep growing at a slow pace.
Previously I did an experiment with Amano shrimp, they do eat these mold if they have no other food alternative, could be the same case for RCS.

Do you have green spot algae, does ottos help you with the glass cleaning?

I used to have something quite similar when I introduced driftwood in my tank, whitish slime-like thing covering the wood. My otto loved them, eat until stomach fat fat
