Think you mean dimmer. Normally for planted tank still using the standard cool white light @ 6000nm to 7000k range wavelengths

You can also add the very popular plant grow led : red @ 660nm to 680nm or blue @ 380nm to 480nm range wave lengths.

To go cheap for plant grow leds you also can get the normal 630nm red and 470nm blue led.

For 660nm deep red leds or 450nm royal blue leds will cost more..

Depend your tank size and depth. There are led wattage range from 0.5watt, 1watt, 3watt, 5watt, 10watt or more per leds

If your tank depth are deep. 3watt or more per leds are better

    Re: DIY LED lights

Very nice topic. I'm also very curious about using LED lamps on aquascape. It's rarely seen on discussion topics (aquascaping journal) on many forums, so I still don't know if LED can grows a healthy aquatic plants or not. :-)

thank you lenkohe and sacy for a very nice sharing about the LED lamps :-)

    Hi Ragn4rok,

Do watch out on the usage of Sms lingo.

This is something that the forum strictly frown upon.

    Thanks

    Re: DIY LED lights

Hi everyone.... thanks for prompt reply...

sacy... your post really pro leh... very detail....
As for my case (2 feet tank 60x30x30cm) how many do i need(color/just white) and how frequent to on it....
for this particular shop the problem is the uncle try to sell higher cost by selling normal adapter (MIC-made in china)...then ask to change better one at some cost saying more lasting if you On more often... and saying if the standard adapter not long enough he will extend for you another $$.. it is safe to extend the cable.. he just cut and rip off the rubber and joint back....
I had search this forum... there is 1 shop at geylang Blk 804... selling also anyone buy before...and the picturte shown is very nice selling at $38....

    Regards...

    Re: DIY LED lights

lenkohe thanks for the compliment .. but i not the guru here. just a avg hobbyist

i not sure what the design and arrangement selling locally.
As i diy my led set by my own. as for me, if to grow plant on standard 2ft.
i will make a led set with total 30 to 36watt of cool white leds light @ 3watts per leds.
then spread all leds evenly apart and add 60,90 or 120 degrees lens for each leds.
And add a analog dimmer to control the light brightness

you can get the cheap china make no brand driver or can get the more costly meanwell brand driver. as long the driver able to output maximum 40v of voltage and output 680mA of Constance current .
this kind of driver able to take up to 10 or 12, 3 watt leds in series connection. with standard 3watts leds rating at 3.6v / 660mA each ..

if your leds are at difference rating, then got to reselect a difference rating driver to fit your needs

    heat sink:
    length around 450mm to 550mm
    width around 140mm to 175mm
heat sink at this range are able to despite the 30~36wat of heat passively. no active cooling needed

    just my 2cent

Not sure. Need to know the spec of your strip type led. Not sure on strip is it enough for your 2ft tank.
