APP in my tank seem to be disintegrating - is there any water parameters required for APP? appear to be "melting"

Same thing goes with Stargrass...leaves turning blue and dropping

    Any one care to advise?

APP is NO3 hungry.. check the levels... as for the stargrass, they are easily bruised and the leave simple turn black...

would be good if you can give us details of your tank before proper advise can be given

Not enough lights will cause it to melt also.

Star Grass is also N hungry, I believe.

When was the last time you washed your filter? If like 1/2 a year ago, you may like to wash it. There could be too much biological filtration converting the ammonia to nitrates. And most plants prefer ammonia intake.

My Star Grass perked up when I washed my filter after about 9 months.

BTW - remember to wash the filter using tank water.

I think it's a high possibility that its NO3 deficient as my tank which had green water cleared till it's really crystal clear. No algae too

    Light is not a problem - 288 W over a 4 feet tank.

    MKT:

Are you saying when there is deficiency in NO3 green water will come, it was the opposite for me. Too high on NO3 probably due to 3 days on UV to clear Green water, where some of the bacteria may have been killed. Don't really see crystal clear in any of tank, even with UV light running 3 solid days and nights.

For me it seems that excessive iron (iron is administered in the form of iron gluconate) is the biggest attributer to algae appearance specially green water, bga, spot, to this walstad seems to agree advising keeping iron limited in the aquarium instead of phosphate.
I wonder why other people haven't report on this, me and a friend of mine here have independently confirmed that to each other on lots of occasions.
Also I suspect that the remaining chelating compounds from the iron after it is break down are binding to other elements (calcium, magnesium?) and blocking their uptake they may even doing it within the plant sap. I cannot 100% confirm any of this sorry guys.
