    Hi all,
    I'm new to this forum.
I've kept ornamental fish for the last 12 years .
Must say I'm not good at it as I've had many fish die on me !
Now I'm into food fish - I've started a DIY aquaponics system where I plant vegetables in a grow bed that is used to filter water from a tank of talapia.
So far, I've been eating the veggies but have not harvested the fish yet.

    Re: Hi from newbie

12 years of fishkeeping is a long time. And I am sure you have accumulated a lot of experience along the way.
It's good to hear of your interest in aquaponics in this forum. It is also aquatics related, since water chemistry
and biology are also part and parcel of hypdroponics and aquatics. It may therefore increase our aquatic quotient too.

What vegetables have you raised and what else do you plan to raise if any? Maybe a separate "aquaponics" thread
    will be interesting to have?

I would greatly appreciate if anyone else can share their experience with aquaponics.
I'm into organic gardening - for food !
Aquaponics is a great way to do organic gardening.

So far, in this new experimental grow bed, I've grown bush beans, lady's fingers, mints,
    laksa leaves and basil.
    They are really thriving.
Initially, I had the fish die on me because the plants were not matured enough to take up the nutrients generated by the fish.
    Now, it's more stable.

Planting Daun Kesum would be nice, as I love Laksa, lol.

I would love to plant some sweet potatoes, though. Any idea whether that is possible with hydroponics?

The laksa leaves love this system......doing very well.
The thing with root veg is questionable - I don't know how well they will take to being submerged in water so often.....
May try it when I add another grow bed.
