    Hi all,

I have a massive planaria outbreak. I have tried vermex and aquamedi snail stop but still no use.

I read that no planaria is not effective so I have not tried it.

I have literally hundreds of planaria and some of them managed to go inside my canister filter.

I have just set up a new tank and I want to use the canister filter for my new tank WITHOUT the planaria..

Any advice? I'm planning to use aquarium salt next.

    Re: Planaria problem

If you are just going to use the canister filter, why not take it out and run it with a pail of water and an overdose of dog/cat dewormer? It will surely work on the planaria if you run it for a day or two. If you want to be safe, run it for 3 days or more. But of course, you need to "flush" the canister filter out with water again. Flubendozole is the active ingredient you want, from what I've read, but I believe the alternative, praziquentel, works as well. Do remember to flush out the canister filter with clean water.

Does dog/cat dewormer kill beneficial bacteria?

I didn't use the pen because I want to exterminate them all, using a catch pen only controls the population.

It might, I'm not too sure. I only suggested it cause even washing of the media in the canister sometimes don't work, what with their eggs being resistant to chlorine and all.

just bomb tank with salt after removing plants and livestock. for plants also soak in saltwater for a while to remove any possible traces of planaria.
Too much of a fish SIAO to quit fish keeping/fishing..

Can't get rid of the eggs that is for sure. I use No-planaria wipe out majority but i think there is eggs within 1 months+ start seeing them again.

    Re: Planaria problem

The No-Planaria works very well for me. do remember not to use any charcoal filter as it will reduce the effect, not suppose to change the water too much. if doing so must add in more powder. it is deadly to snails though. i used it for my shrimp tanks and the planaria had never came back for a year already.

    Re: Planaria problem

I just dosed no planaria a few days ago. This is the 3rd day of dosing.

I still see planaria moving in my tank and I see quite a few of them inside my canister filter...

I'm really at my wits end now as I am planning to use my old canister for my new tank...

Is there anything that can kill them instantly? worst case scenario I nuke the canister with chemicals to use for my new tank...
