Operate 1 Filter for 2 Tanks

I have 2 small tanks and was wondering if there is any type of filter that can be connected to 2 tanks.

    E.g.
Water will be sucked into the Filter from both Tank A and B,
    go through the Filter,
then the water is pumped back to both Tank A and B.

I have googled it and read some hits (some in AQ too). Looks like it is not possible with a Canister Filter because of some overflow problem. Those threads were a couple years old btw.

So I was wondering if there is any new filter technology these days.

With the above example, if the filter is not partitioned,
meaning the water from both Tank A and B will be sucked into 1 single container of the filter, there is still a possibility of overflow problem when the water flows back to the Tanks, since there isn't a means to measure the water coming in from both tanks and distribute it with the same amount back to the tanks.

Proably it is possible if the filter is partitioned, just a wild guess/thought.

My main objective is to use only 1 power source for the filter, operating for both tanks.
My current setup is separate sponge filters for both tanks, operating from a single air pump.
My intention is to get HOF to replace these sponge filters, but that means I need to get 2 HOFs operating with 2 power source, which I am reluctant. MY preference is to have a single powered filter that can operate for 2 tanks, if possible.

Is there such a filter available in the market these days?

    Thank you in advance.

Operate 1 Filter for 2 Tanks

    Hello,

Google water bridge. Can be done but with risks still. But is quite fun to see the fish swim across the ranks via water bridge.

I would not really recommend thou.

Thanks bro, for the google keywords.

I found this site from the google hits.

    very interesting concept.

the tanks shown are on the same level. my tanks are on different level unfortunately.
but this is so interesting that I am beginning to think if I should move my tanks and DIY the bridge.

Operate 1 Filter for 2 Tanks

    I'm using water bridge myself.
    Poison is from Eviltrain.

It simply levels the water between 2 tanks.

For different height tanks, I only see overflow as your only option.

Check overflow double J, or just look for Eviltrain, Navanod, opened threads.

ALERT major posion if you do. :P

I will do more readings for the time being, just interested to see how it works, and how it can fit into my requirement. I will bug you guys if I am really going for it. Cheers bro.

Re: Operate 1 Filter for 2 Tanks

After reading quite a bit on these water bridge/overflow setup, I felt it makes sense for me to go for it, although I don't know how soon I will start this project.

    Why?

I have 2 small tanks, and maintaining the water parameter is one of the many challenges.
If I connect these 2 tanks together, that means I will have "1ft tank" of water, which is definitely very encouraging for water parameter stablization.

I will research further on how to do this in the most effortless, econimical way, hopefully.

just found this youtube video. this water bridge thingy really adds another amusement factor to the tank.

the water bridge that this guy is using, seems to be a off-the-rack piping. Have anyone seen anywhere selling this?

    Bro,
Google here, Google there, read almost everywhere and finally I stumbled upon one of your posting here:
    http://www.aquaticquotient.com/forum...469#post623469

It's exactly what I want to do after doing much read up.

May I know where did you buy the clear PVC pipe and what did you use to glue it to the connector (or the 90 degree bend)?
I supposed you are using a normal hacksaw to saw the pipe to size?

    Haha I got exposed!!

I bought them from seaview. (c328,y618 also sells them)
Joints and clear pipe have 2-3 sizes make sure they can fit to the clear pipe.

I have existing pipe cutter to cut, can use hacksaw also.

Never used any sealant, just cut and file rough parts and join using the elbows/joints.

Currently have upgraded to larger version. Only shrimp and snails swim through not happy enough.

hehe.. I will, if I am going ahead with this.

I hesitated when I had 2 shock just now, after visiting the LFS to get my stuff.

1st, I am going for the 40mm diameter tube and the elbow bend, connector aren't cheap and it's opaque, I am looking for transparent ones.

2nd, the eheim canister filter is not cheap either..

haiz... got to do more research on how to approach this before going for another round of impulsive (hopefully not) buying...

Option 1: custom size from darma. Will cost you. If

Option 2: settle for PVC joints. Their half the price. Pipe still can use clear ones.

Remember, too small water not carried over fast enough. Too big how to pull the water in.

Thanks bro. Finally I gave in to my diy desire, can't wait any longer and went ahead to make a small water bridge.
I will be posting a thread in the DIY session in a short while. Couldn't have done this without all the information readily supplied by you.
