suck and blow is hand in hand, there no way it blow water without sucking the water from somewhere.
Before I buy a submersible water pump, I would like to know if it sucks water in or it simply blows water away?
I am concerned about it sucking water because it might suck in my shrimplets if the opening is big enough.
As an example, I am looking at this type of pump:

you can block the inlet with filter wool or sponge
you can try those internal filter pump, it usually come with the sponge and filter cartidge, can serve as a filter too.
This is a submerged filter.
The top part is the submerged pump. The bottom part is the filtering attachment.
Submerged pumps are pumps without any filter attachment.
Some submerged pumps can be really powerful and they can suck in all small fish and hold tight onto big fish too.
LIFE IS UNBEARABLE WITHOUT A FISH TANK!!!
