    Hi All,

So.. I was looking at my single Gex 1ft tank that I am presently using to keep my guppies and decided to "outsource" my project to anyone who is interested in guppy genetics. Due to my lack of space for additional tanks, I thought it would be a good idea to make this somewhat like a community project where we can all learn together and reap the benefits.

So, here are some details. As many probably already know, I am presently keeping some blond base, glass belly, full red guppies. After about a year now since I started on this project, I have a come to a split road for this strain. Its not showcase material by any means yet.

    uploadfromtaptalk1351326361770.jpg

The above pictures show my lone male and 4 females I have for him. Currently, the male has red on the body, but the top of the head is still without red. Belly is also not very red yet. I have a few ideas for the next generation..

    1. Outcross to Blond Red Moscow (improve red and tail)
    2. Outcross to Blond Full Red (improve red)
    3. Outcross to a HB strain (possible HB glass belly red)
    4. Outcross to a Black Moscow/Full Black (copper/chocolate glass belly)

What I am hoping to achieve in each instance is primarily to retain the glass belly gene and come up with either a nice red guppy with glass belly (1, 2) or some variation of uncommon colored guppy with glass belly (3, 4). Personally, I like the blond base as it complements the glass belly gene well and resulting offspring have a solid black eye due to the lack of silver irids. Anyone here with quite abit of interest in guppy genetics, glass bellies and have a spare tank..?

Personally, I'm quite hopeful for someone to try creating a copper/chocolate strain from crossing a red and a black (4). Hopefully, the black pigments will overlay the red ones to achieve that result. I think I might continue developing the red coverage myself.

So anyway, if anyone is interested in a community project.. Maybe reply here with your suggestion for the outcross and once my females drop in a month or two, we will be able to kick start this experiment.

Disclaimer: I am still new to guppy genetics and the intended crosses might not work as I envisioned. This is of course, open to discussion. Feel free to shoot me down.

Woh you are really good in glass belly guppies? I am now working on my full red albino guppies. DO you care to trade your fries with mine? I might want to work on a new project.

Hey bro, I'm just a small time breeder. Haha. Don't have enough space for more tanks, so I probably can't trade with you. However, if you are interested in some glass belly full reds, then I can probably sell you a pair/trio. Don't worry about the price. Anyone who has bought from me knows I sell my guppies off very cheaply. Promote the hobby and get more people interested in the glass belly strains!

    Small time breeders.
    Big hearted hobbyist

Hope to see pictures of nice cross very very soon.

Btw, space constraint always a issue to hobbyist (exclude deeper pocket bros) haha.

Haha. Well, I have a baby coming soon. Cannot afford the space and the money now. I'm hoping others can create their own strains with help from my strain. That'll be awesome for everyone.

Thanks! Whenever you feel like starting, just send me a PM bro. I'm pretty sure I'll have some good starters for you. Especially if you have even a fleeting interest in genetics.

    Re: Guppy Genetics Experimentation

Wow. Ha-ha. I'm no longer keeping the guppies, although I do have intention to come back to the hobby and re-create the strain.
