I let my golden or yellow panchax eat blood and now it became so red. Gees! This is crazy!
Hello Fish lovers,
I am new to the forum here (but not new to fish keeping).
I have several Golden or Yellow Panchax and successfully breed a tank of small fishes.
Now, I want to expand these collection, I would like to add the Blue Panchax or the Stripe Panchax.
I been to QianHu and was very disappointed to find that they no longer have them (only yellow panchax available).
I was reading some articles online the Blue Panchax can be found at Admiralty Park among the mangrove trees and also at Bontani Gardens. I do not want to risk the law to poach the fish illegally. So, is there any shop or owners who can offer me these variety of fish (even some good Killie Fishes).
I thanks you in advance for any information.
But if you wish to tell me where I can catch some wild Panchax, you would be kind hearted to email to me at [email protected]
I appreciated your valuable help and assistance in this matter.
Thanks a million!
QUESTION : By the way, does anyone here has the experience of breeding the yellow panchax and mixed with the Blue or Stripe Panchax? Will they fight?

piperon: Hi, the striped panchax (Aplocheilus lineatus) is actually the wild type of the yellow or golden panchax commonly seen in the shops. Originally native to southern India, it has been introduced to 2 locations in Singapore, in Bukit Batok Nature Park, and Singapore Botanic Gardens. LINK. Crossing the striped panchax and golden panchax shouldn't be a problem, since they're technically the same species.
The blue panchax (Aplocheilus panchax) is our only native killifish; I've seen it in streams fringing the Central Catchment Area, mangroves in Admiralty Park, and also in some ponds at Pulau Ubin.
Small is beautiful.
Hi Pseudogobiopsis,
Thanks for the valuable info.
I browsed through this forum and found some trace of the history of the panchax from India.
It was bought in by a hobbyist from India by the name of Madan in the year 2003?
And just came to know the Blue Panchax is a local fish which is a surprise for me, I didn't expect this to be true until I found this forum.
I believe those places you mentioned are legally protected. So the only place to get the blue panchax is to go to Pulau Ubin, am I right?
I have been searching around, even went to QianHu and Seaview but couldn't find these species.
So guys and ladies, don't be shy!
Tell me where can I catch some wild panchax (stripe panchax) and blue panchax without breaking the law? (Since I can't find them in aquarium or fish farm).
If you are afraid of over poaching, I promise I will only get two pairs of each.
Let me know the location, email to me at [email protected] but please don't rubber me to holland.
Thanks a million!!!
Have you tried mail ordering killifish eggs?
Sharing is Caring
No, I don't trust mail order over the net.
Furthermore, the eggs are difficult to hatch, almost zero hatching - one of my friend's experience.
There is no guarantee and he lost about $100 for those eggs.
Before you go online to bid for eggs, understand these facts first:
A) accept that losses can occur along the way, because transportation temperatures can cause the eggs to die in transit.
B) accept that eggs can die during incubation, even if transportation was successful
Once you can deal with the possibility of losses, which happens frequently at times due to bad packing or due to our weather, then order. Not all sellers are reliable to begin with, especially via eBay or other mail order sites. If losses are unacceptable, don't even try. I'm not trying to discourage you guys but too many people complain about this when several of us have spent more and got nothing to show for it. Losing eggs before and during incubation is a given and will happen even if you try your best.
If you want good quality pairs, try Green Chapter. The price may not be exactly cheap but given the difficulty to get some of them to spawn or thrive in our climate, you'd understand the prices.

Thanks stormhawk,
Thanks very much for valuable information, I keep this in mind.
I google for Green Chapter and found they have many resellers, which one should I go? Or to Clementi Ave 2 HeadQuarter?
Thanks for your assistance in this matter.
piperon: Just sent you an email.

Haha actually go to their macpherson main office? Look in advertiser dedicated forum
Hi Astro,
For mail ordering of fish eggs, buy from those sellers in Asia. The transit time is shorter and the eggs have better survival chances. Using EMS will definitely help though it is more expensive.
Ton2003, a Japanese seller in Aquabid, sell good quality eggs. I bought twice from him and each time, some eggs managed to hatched.
All the best, if you intend to order fish eggs.
Hello Mike,
Just go directly to their shop at Macpherson. I believe they should still have pairs of at least 2 species available there. The listed resellers on the site are probably those that carry their exclusive product range. I've seen some of their items for sale at C328 but not livestock.
