For me, it is MONSTER, Cichlids and Koi, and Koi is a must for me in every tank because they are very hardy and very hardworking cleaner...

I am surprised that the gourami fish receives no vote. To me it can become very 'personal' or responsive with its owner.

If feeding is delayed, it loses patience and spits water into the air, or on any remaining food stuck on the side of the glass. It will feed off one's finger. In short, it is very tame.

It constantly explores the entire tank leaving no stone unturned, so to speak. It will squeeze into tight crevices and somewhat still manages to extricate itself. During water change, it inquisitiveness tracks where the siphon moves. And it is just after a water change that it begins exploring all over again.

It is a voracious eater.

It has a fighting style not unlike the Siamese fighting fish in fanning out its fins.

It is highly territorial and will not tolerate the presence its own species.

It plays dead by lying flat on one side at the bottom when transferred to another tank.

Last but not least, it is not sensitive to light changes.

Somehow when you mention gourami make me dig up a very old video and upload to youtube....
I fully agreed this type of fish really can eat non stop and can eat anything that is edible.... but if i remember correct it does not eat my living small fishes unless they died and will become his food....
It can really respond very well when seeing someone...
Mine grows very big in a few months to almost a feet... but due to i have to move house after getting one, i am not able to go back daily to do feeding and cleaning... in the end, my brother decom my tank and give everything away....

My gourami, being 'dwarf', is limited in growth but is comparatively more aggressive than their bigger counterparts.
Miss it as I have given it up to experiment with other species.

I like livebearers like platies and mollies cos they are easy to breed and they come in many color forms.Tetras would come in 2nd for me...
