HI! new here. I have one question. my tank is about a month old now but i can't seem to be able to keep any shrimps alive. I bought a yamato shrimp when i just started and it died just hours later. a week later, i bought a bag of malaya shrimps ( i think there are more than 10 in the bag) from Y618 for $2 but they lasted less than a day. My friend told me that the water condition wasn't good. So i waited for the water to muture and tried again with 4 yamato shrimps but they also lasted less than a day. what do I need to do to make them live? Any advice?

Did you acclimatise the shrimps before you put them in?
Can tell us your water parameters?
    I'm back!

My guess is PH swing that caused the death of your shrimps. How big is your fish tank ?? Did you leave the CO2 on overnight.

Go get a KH, PH and NO3 tester at least. Check and fill up the information before anyone can help you.

Not sure if you did the acclimitisation right. They are quite fragile.

i read the post and i have some questions. do you open the bag, float it and put water? and i used to float the bag unopened for an hour, open it up, put tank water bit by bit... then when it is full i'll leave the bag in the tank and let them swim into the tank by themself..

The floating part might not be necessary in hot and humid Singapore as the temperature is pretty close. It is the gradual balancing of water parameters between the tank and the ones in the bag that is important. Critters do not take big salt content changes very well and could even kill them if the range is very wide.

Shrimps are more sensitive than fish and usually kept in lousy water in LFSs (depending on the LFS though) so I normally acclimatise them for 30mins float, add water little by little every 5 mins until it's 50/50, then leave them for 30mins and net them out.
    I'm back!

I think i will disagree with that. I have activated carbon in my filter and I have bred no less than 600 cherry shrimps over a period of 5 months. Therefore, I dun think AC will do any harm to the shrimps.

Could be the water temperature. I've kept my shrimps in a dedicated tank with a chiller maintaining the temp at 26deg. No lost of yamato or cherry.
