Fp. Gardneri: Is it ok to leave spawn mop for a week?

Hi guys,

For nearly four days I have been spawning Fp. Gardneri (gold). So far everything is good. I am checking the spawn mops everyday. Sometimes twice a day.

I am wondering is it safe to leave the spawn mop for a week? Will the eggs safe from being eaten by their parents?

Btw, I also plan to breed Ap. Australe. Same question there.

Definitely not to leave the spawning mop for too long but one week is okay. Its best to leave them alone rather than check on them every now and then. What I usually do is, put a spawning pair together in a 12L tank/container, throw in 1 or 2 spawning mops and close the lid. I feed them twice daily with live food and only collect and check the mops once a week.

Hi Shi Xuan, thank you for the information. The problem is that nearly all articles on killifish always tell to check the spawning mop at least once a day. That's why I was hesitating. But now I definitely will try it.

Btw, you were refering to all killifish species, or only for Fp. Gardneri and Ap. Australe?
