    Re: DIY LED Light.

The white LED i got was from Ikea.
4 strap in a box... less than one blue note. I use 1 strap for each tank, keeping 2 as spare. Each strap is 0.7W

I just let it sit on the glass tank cover using thicker tape to levitate it above ground. Also tape the glass cover gaps to prevent water from getting through.

    Re: DIY LED Light.

Since it is a small tank, i do not think this Ikea LED strip is suitable for you. Do you have a glass cover to let the LED sits on it ?
How are you going to mount it ?
Why not get those clamp type using E27 lightbulb... You can then buy those LED lightbulb easily even from NTUC.
The clamp type with 2 pin plug and LED will costs you less than SGD30.
I do not have picture to show you the clamp type, but my this video has one if you look carefully.

    Re: DIY LED Light.

Hi bravobb, thanks for the suggestion.

I do have a cover and wish to keep it on. So i plan to take out the existing lighting and paste the LED strip on it using velcro.

    Re: DIY LED Light.

    That is good.
However, i am not sure whether this 4x 0.7W LED is suitable for plants or what kind of plants it can support.
Either you have to experience it yourself or hopefully someone with more experienced can enlighten us.

I think for 1.5ft thank, forget about the ikea light. Buy a proper one for around the same price from brands like beamworks etc better. There are a few versions from beamworks so choose the higher powered ones. Not to mention it comes with proper fixture for aquarium use.

You can visit east ocean or seaview to see their range. I bought mine from east ocean as they have lots on demo in their tanks.

Longer hour does not help. Use T5 lighting is better if you want to keep strong lighting demand plant. You need to know what type of plant you want to keep and make a choice between LED or T5. By the way LED also have 1w and 3w type much brighter than those 0.7

Previously there was a thread on it. Also some reported the lower powered beamworks not enough for planted so take heed from Zeonic.

Btw, LED strips can illuminate tank only.

    Re: DIY LED Light.

IMO those white led at ikea is not suitable as they are only 2700kelvin (stated in their website). For planted tanks, go for proper T5 lighting set.
