Hi guys, I intend to use power head to ease my water changes. The tank is 3ft by 1.5 height. and sit on a 70cm cabinet.

Siphoning out is fine. Use gravity. But for filling the tank, the power head must be able to pull water from the bucket on the floor and move up at least 1.1m to fill my tank. Will a 600L/hr suffice?

My tank about 170L. Taking into consideration the substrate in it.

My toilet is quite a distance. Maybe 10m hose is require. And I have trouble attacking a hose adaptor to the faucet.

you should find the solution for your faucet so that you can attached the hose,
once you solved that 170l is not a problem brudder.....
You can upgrade to 370l tank

    Re: Recommend power head

    • Getting a very long hose also has it's problems.
    • Pumping the water into the tank is also slow, unless you get a super powerful head, which will be expensive. But I don't recommend using a pump.
    • Another way is to get an extra big pail and a large scoop, eg 2litre or bigger. This way, you don't have to bother about winding back a long hose, which can be quite heavy and troublesome, and needs a lot of storage space too. Scooping water from the pail with a large scoop is much faster and simple. The trick lies in the size of the scoop, the bigger it is the better.
LIFE IS UNBEARABLE WITHOUT A FISH TANK!!!

Once you attached your hose to the faucet, you dont need a pump to draw and pump in water.
If winding back a long hose is a problem the stick to 10L tank, that is just my opinion.
Having a long hose is the best and the neatest way of cleaning a tank.

    Re: Recommend power head

I use Eheim Compact 1000 power head to help me in filling up my tank in the same way as you described. The highest point of the hose is about 1.4m. The pump has variable output, even at the lowest throughput of about 150l/h is not a problem but it will take along time to fill up.
Hope this helps in answering your query.
