Wah! No need kwa! Your scape look very very good. Crypts may look out of place in your current setting. Meanwhile enjooy your tank
Hi all,
I'm totally new to Crypts and I'm thinking of planting them in one of my nano tanks (pic below).
It is a 1-foot low tech tank, with 16w light, New Amazonia soil, GEX Slim HOF, and dosing with Excel+Dymax Flora+Dymax Iron.
I wanted to have some red background plants and started with Luwidgia Bevipes. But it is still too green. They also grow too fast and tall for a small nano tank.
I'm now thinking of replacing all the Luwidgia with some Crypts. They Crypts will be planted at the same position, along the back of the tank and in between some rocks.
Do you think they are suited for my tank? Please also recommend a species that is a nice red, and not too tall and big.
Thanks bros.

Thanks bros for the reaffirmation, but growing stem plants in a nano tank really tests my patience...
And I am really intrigued by what's the big deal about Crypts, so many discussions on this, and so many specialised Crypt collectors...
Crypts start really slow. First, they will wither to nothing and will grow back again. emmersed and submersed form look really different. farm usually grow them emmersed because it is so much faster. Crypts tank is awesome but tough and if you can keep them low they are beautiful. once they are stable - they spread like wild fire.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ddgrr6MgKMg this is what got me into cryptocoryne. i've also just set up a pure cryptocoryne tank.
PS: the above tank is about 2 years old.
wah the video is poisonous man...
any specific recommendation on what species will suit my tank? and where to get it?
Hi, i think most crypts will be too big for your tank especially those with bronze, red colour.
I would think the tank is great in itself. Crypts wouldn't look as good in the tank. You're short on choices on red plants because it's a low-tech tank so you can't have red plants in it. It might be worth considering echinodorus plants instead, ie. Ozelot red?
Need something to scratch that itchy hand of mine.

Eh.. 1 foot tank? Echin0dorus? The tank will be choked

Just bouncing ideas off mah..haha, but I really like the layout of the tank right now. Simple, fuss free, yet appealing all at the same time.

Hello bros, thank you all for affirming the current condition of my tank. But recently my tank had a algae bloom and all the Ludwudgia Bevipes got badly affected. For some reason, the Blyxia Japonica started to melt abit too. I got so fed up that I took out all the Luwidgia Bevips and Blyxia Japonica.
That was a week ago, I did some big WC, overdosed excel and brought in some SAE and yamato. The tank is now stabalised. I kinda like how it looks 'iwagami' with just the rocks and jap HG.
Anyway I was at C328 and..................
I bought my first Crypts! 2 pots of C Wendtii Tropica. They are quite small, around 2 inches tall per plant.
I intend to plant some in between the rocks, and the rest towards to the back of the tank and behind the rocks.
Any tips on how I should plant this species, how to care, and what will they will grow into? (I'm not sure if this species is supposed to remain so small).
Learning the hardway, not the highway.

Thanks Felix!
If they prefer slight shade, then I will plant them at the back of my tank cos my lights are slightly forward to be right above the Jap HG.
Anyway Felix, even if I trim the big leaves, wouldn't the new leafs that grow be just as big as the plant matures?
Hi Gid
I bought Wendii Tropica a year ago. It takes a while to establish, you need patient but the roots will develop quite rapidly without your knowledge, though the leaves might melt initially. I waited for it to grow about a month or two after setting up my tank, and eventually gave up by pulling it out. Than one baby wendtii escaped my notice and took roots behind my tank under the shade of nana & driftwood. A year later this is what it looks like

With limited space behind the tank, they grew in cluster of rosette form and continue to find space to develop more baby leaves until they became massive. I just leave it there and it never grow quite tall but spread out its elongated olive brown leaves. Let it grow naturally and worry about subjective trimming next time, you might not even need to trim if they look pretty.

Hi bros, I have planted my 2 pots of Wendtii Tropica for about 1 month. They are doing really well, no signs of melt even with major WC and me uprooting and replanted them. Growing quite fast too, each plantlet now has 1 to 2 new leaves and have increased about 25% in size.
But...they are exactly the same color as my rocks!I was hoping for more contrast... Spot them if you can, I have 8 plantlets...
