Got a big patch on my rock that is pearling like mad, when my hair grass ain't pearling a single bit.
Guess It might be BBA, is it?
Tried to spot dose excel it, but does not seem to work..
Any recommendations?
Look like coffee powder to me ...
I hoped that it was coffee power.. It's a little maroon-blackish. Most probably BBA. Trying to deny the truth, until another bro slaps the truth into my face.. The worst thing is that it's pearling when my others plants aren't..
It kinda does look like the beginnings of BBA (before they become fuzzy)... most likely its pearling because it finds your tank conditions ideal for growth (maybe fluctuating Co2 or excess nutrients/light).
Maybe try increasing Co2 or do spot treatment with Excel? Or just take out the rock and dunk it in a bucket of Excel solution.
Either bba or diatoms, to me.

Diatoms easier to be removed, just scrub / brush. It goes away

i tried brushing it, but very very hard to get off.
a friend suggested getting some nerite snails, while another friend advised to use spot dosing of excel, of which the shrimps will clear it off afterwards.
i have no nerite snails, and no shrimps too. time to go LFS shop shop after lessons today..
would nerite snails be better? cos i scared my neons will snack on the shrimps if they're hungry..
I would prefer excel because i dont like snail . When you do spot treatment using excel, turn off your filter at least for30 minutes
Hey Robert, did some spot dosing yesterday, and they seem to have stopped pearling today.
I only have Otos as algae clean up crew, and they don't seem to like eating them. Been feeding them hikari waffles recently since one of the Otos died.. Time to starve them.
Maybe will drop by C328 after school to get some snails, read up and seems like they're one of the faster ways to clear them..
need 3 times once a day or until it turn white normally will turn white after 3 times.
By the way never brush BBA unless it turn white. those tiny little black hair that you brush will grow some where in your tank
Got some nerite snails from Y618 yesterday. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1358826335.084694.jpg
Pictures are as of yesterday..

Checked then this morning.. They haven't moved much, still on the same rock.. Hopefully they're busy grazing on the algae that's why they're still there..

Lawn mowing? It's only 2 days and I'm seeing improvements to the algae conditions on the rocks! The black patch has turned green.. And some are disappearing. Seem like its a good sign!
