    Hi,

I have something to share. I just have been shot by a brother from another forum.

I wish to clear my name by posting my shrimp tank.

    001.jpg

I guess that my ghost shrimp was cross breed from yellow and blue shrimps. That is what I have to say.

I will post photos as prove.

    Re: Cross breeding of shrimps

Hi, i cant really see the shrimp very clearly from your pic, but it looks like you got a wild cherry shrimp from your cross breeding, which is quite expected. It is not a ghost shrimp, which normally refers to feeder shrimps of the macrobrachium genus, macrobrachium lanchesteri. Yellow shrimps are from the genus neocaridina, blue shrimps i am not sure, either caridina or neocaridina, it is not possible to have offspring from a totally different genus.

    Hi,

I must say that i do not have any cherry in my tank.

The cherry you see is from the off spring of the breeding.

Maybe your definition of a 'ghost shrimp' and others is different?

    Hi,

Firstly, I have to say sorry to AQ. I just need the expert advise that this is possible.

These shrimps are cross breed from yellow and blue shrimp.

even the cherries off spring were seen from this tank (community tank aka mixed).

I even got a few chocolate shrimplets too.

Sorry Ken i m blur so this is a community tank of neocaridina?? meaning your have majority of this shrimps

Aka yellow, orange, pearl blue, chocolate, sakura, cherry, fire red, Snowballs etc.

If so than it might explain that piece which is the wild form aka rainbow which change colour too under different circumstances but once stable it will be in it true form wild transparent with dots or without dots.

    The shell is slight tainted.

    Alvin
That sounds like my cherry and sakura.
Look like ghost shrimp, but of course not.

    Ken,
Ghost shrimp are kinda big. (Think adult yamato size).

    Re: Cross breeding of shrimps

    Hi,

As I mentioned, my "ghost shrimps" were cross breed from gloden yellow and pearl blue. I also have CRS and BDS in this tank.

After 1 or 2 generation, I have chocolate shrimps coming out from this tank.

There are cherries coming out too. Other then these, the rest are basically like ghost shrimps.

    Re: Cross breeding of shrimps

When you cross breed neocaridina you will get the wild form. But if you insist that they are 'ghost shrimp' no one can stop you naming your shrimp.

    Re: Cross breeding of shrimps

"Ghost shrimp" in our local LFS as a trade name is very poorly defined. Although it was mostly agreed to be macrobrachium lanchesteri most of the time...I've seen giant ones at times, which are supposed to be dominant males (sexual dimorphism).
Basically, these are mostly transparent shrimps, with a prominent, extra long pair of "claws" as one of their pairs of pereiopods. They are considered aggressive shrimps, being known to attack and eat smaller fishes and shrimps. Their youngs spawn as larvae or zoea, instead of as mini shrimps.

Trying to coin a new color strain using an existing trade name is likely to cause confusion and will also likely be refuted by others in the hobby. Which is probably why the rest are calling it a wild cherry.
Also, you have to understand that many of the color morphs we see in the Neocaridina sp. mostly came from a common wild type, generally known as a "wild cherry" by the trade & layperson.
Not having any cherry shrimps in your tank is beside the point. Any crossing of Neocaridina color morphs have been known to mostly result in a wild cherry looking offspring.
Note that the name "glass shrimp" is also already taken, so you can't really use that either.

Actually, I do not understand what this dispute is about that resulted in you being "shot by a brother from another forum"?
