when the riccia has reached to a certain thickness, you should either remove them and retie or u can weight them down with stones tied with riccia. But be caution that just weighting down might cause rotting from the bottom, which will have complication later on. please observe and decide :P

I had lots of maintenance with Riccia. Although tieing to wood, rock and pressing it down with stone are ok, but it will last for a while only.
Finally, I manage to find a way to root it. The best cases which i read before was to plant it with some other plants which the riccia can anchor. Many suggested hairgrass, however, hairgrass could never catch up with the growth rate of riccia. I manage to get hold of a plant which is small enough to be notice. It grows together with the riccia. Can really see the plant as the long strends just coil itself together with the riccia and hold them in place. REAL effective.
Too bad, my camera is not good enough to capture it...

I tie java moss together with riccia. It helps to anchor for some months but eventually the riccia will still outgrow the moss.

when the riccia grows to a certain length, can hhold it down with wire mesh also, but that will increase the height of the riccia lawn in time.

    hi JT,
You can't post pics on this forum here. However, you can sign up for an imagestation account at www.imagestation.com. Upload your pic there, and then link them here using the "IMG" button. Remember to delete ".orig.jpg" from the end of the url when u link it. The picture will then show up here!

    Cheers, YC

    Hi JT,

I'm really interested to know what that plant might be as well. Please let us know if you have managed to upload the picture, or that you have a slightest clue as in what the plant might be. Thank you.

i think its this thing which grows like a fine, slightly curled, creeper like thing. it will sometimes grow up vertical. has small ball like looking things on it. if thats what you are talking about, i used to have them with my riccia.

From your description, sounds like the Glossostigma.

Isn't that part of riccia? How do you use that to keep riccia down?

It helps to keep your Ricca as one whole piece by growing/entangling it altogether. As a big piece, it is easier to anchor it down and loose ricca will not form/float easily. Depending on how u use it, this entangling plants is usually 'caught' by the bog wood, surroundings...
