cool yr lights
cool yr lights
......
point the fan at your water
the way it works to cool your tank is by evaporation
the co2 loss i'd imagine to be near negligible
I think if you suck out the hot air under you light is better than blow to the water directly.
just like a computer system usually the fan is suck out the hot air
hope this can help
sucking the air in this instance will not be effective since most likely it is not fully enclosed...unlike a PC----------------

so.. just a thought, have any of u tried blowing the fan at lights and waters?
what is the temp difference as in if i blow it at the lights against when i blow it against the water? any significant diff?
i ask this coz i get the impression that blowing or drawing hot air from the lights is a much better method.. but can care to explain why is that so?
Let us work together to preserve the world for our children to inherit by being responsible to our surroundings. Take nothing but pictures, leave nothing but footprints, bubbles and memories.
i get 27 for my 4ft blowing directly onto the water..
pardon me, but----------------

computers aren't fish tanks
when you're pointing the fan at the water, the hot air is simultaneously displaced by cooler air
AND the water is further cooled by evaporation
but if you point it at the lights
you cool the lights, yes
but your aim is to cool the tank
what's the point?
one more thing to think about, simon, is when you say you're cooling your lights
the wind will definitely move across the water surface
you're also getting evaporative cooling
unless you're placing the fan far above the water blowing across the lights
for mine, the fan is above the lights, blowing thru the gap between to lighting fixtures
Simon, how did you rig fan up to blow in between your lights fixtures ? I'm interested to find out cos' I've no more space to add my fans.

har?
which tank, btw?
His four feet tank with the rainbow fish...his fan is above the light, or shld i say resting on the light with a metal peice holding the fan in place.
Cheers!

that's the one with the lights 10cm above the water and using PL lights?
Yea...thats correct, that way does it cools down the temp?
BTW does evaporating of water cools the water down? what will i do to the evaporated water fill them up?
Cheers!
Benetay
yes, evaporating water cools the water down----------------

top it up, is what most ppl do
simon's lights are PL and 10cm above the water
i'd imagine the heat transfer from conduction to be low as compared to FL 5 cm above the water (such as my old 2ft tank, last seen at 29.5 degrees during the day, no fan, 28.0 with fan)
besides, simon only has that one set, while many other tanks have 2 or more light sets
my MV with a fan (15cm above the water) is at 26.7 degrees during the day
DEA: So do i need a fan for my MH?
Cheers!
Benetay
why don't you set it up and check the temperature?
for big tanks, the rate of temperature increase is very slow
by the time the temp hits around 28 it's night time already
assuming air conditioning at night, sorry
the tank will be place in the hall, so no air con in the night. I don't think big tank will give temp problems .
So there is no need for me to put fan nor do i need heaters rite?
Cheers!
Benetay
LOL.. benny, yr 6ft is going to be an apisto tank.. so temp. not a prob.. good thing abt having a big tank like that is the temp will take age to raise.
yimin, the fan u using is a clip on?
