I found the rare lowland Nepenthes veitchii again (May 6, 2007)!!!

It is growing on a tree together with orchids on the top of forest canopy.....but I can see it as I was standing on the summit of a limestone hill. Too bad I don't have a zoom lens to photograph this pitcher plant which grow on the tree.

    The dense Limestone forest:

As I don't have the zoom lens to photograph it, so I cropped this photo in order to see the closer view.

Nepenthes veitchii grows together with orchids on this tree called Casuarina, near the top of forest canopy.

Wow! Another expedition with great stuff to show for. Good thing there is enough resolution for you to crop. Considering a 300 mm lens soon?

    Cheers,

Wagler's pit viper is still ok lah..

My kai who had lunch with me in Guangzhou today, nearly got killed by this snake last night. Almost couldn't make it to our appointment! It escaped & crawled to his face..and my kaki sweeped away with his hand in half dreaming mode, afterwards he felt something is not right, woke up, checked two cages(5 snakes in 5 container, 4 are deadly dangerous), nothing missing, so he decided to check out the toilet, and before returning to his bed, he saw this bugger on the floor.....he never close his eyes for the next couple hours lying down on bed.

btw, this is a super x 10 neat snake, ranma you know?

Well.. i'm not too sure, but the only snake i know that is a viper, with no pit glands and non-keeled scales and those HUGE cloubrid like head scales would be Azemiops feae... Was this found in china?? if yes then most probably correct..those thin orange lines look familiar...so tricky..haha..
If i am correct.. this one the head looks funny..haha..
But your friend lucky these guys aren't toooo aggressive.
Still i have to say way cool these guys are..

Yup, not only the head is different, the body is a lot darker than normal ones(I've only seen a few alive, hard to come by and only handful ppl can keep them alive) too. A widely spread species but population is low. This one is from border area, my kaki has a smaller specimen too, new species or just a geological variation is TBD.

I'm sure that is an understatement!

I can't imagine how I would react if I were him. Then again, I wouldn't sleep with 4 poisonous snakes. Sometimes, I think you guys are crazy!!!

That day we saw an empty snake skin on the summit ......at least 5 meters long.....then my kaki felt uncomfortable and asked me to go back.

5 meters, you need quite a few people to handle man. But then it means the forest can still supply food for such large snake, good forest.

It is a dangerous place.....it's almost like rock climbing in that area.....stones are razor-sharp & a lot of holes. There are "fire plants" which can make your body itchy for a week if u accidently touch it!
