just throw what you need into the tank without mixing. i have a community with shrimp, fish, snails and it doesn't make any difference

It's good to know how much fert to dose to troubleshoot plant growth or algae issues. I know it's not as simple as what you mention, I wish it is.

Some delicate plant species like mini pellia or Eriocaulon Quinguangular need specific requirement to thrive. I prefer this site keep members well inform.

Quinn doesn't know how much his tank require, so it's more beneficial for him if he knows the math.

I prefer to be well inform of my tank parameters, for example, I use a PAR meter to check my lights and too much, even with C02 dosing up to 45ppm can create havoc in my tank.

Below is the PAR/KELVIN/PUR/LUX readings of my tank at 100% and I never blast them.

Yeah, confining nature takes some work.

Maybe your lights are not strong enough to cause algae outbreak.

my advice was just to add the ferts directly without mixing with RO.

I wasn't commenting on how much to add, or how to combat algae or PAR or whatever.

Interesting science there about PAR meters.

What about water volume? How do you measure exactly because most EI calculator sites require an input? Wrong estimate could indicate wrong fertiliser dosing regime right?

Just calculate as close as you can, for example Tank volume - substrate volume. The idea is to get as close as possible and have a small margin for error, eg +/- 10L.

Observing the plant growth is as important as amount of fert to dose. EI is called Estimative Index because it's an estimation.

PS:I'm logging my next setup at the moment with some gizmos and diy stuffs. I will post once I'm ready if you are interested. Stay tune for my post.
