Not much, most probably an undescribed species. I think it is also fairly new (first seen in 2006?), hence rare in the market. To my knowledge, never been available in Singapore before.

Also sold as Hyphessobrycon sp. "Red/Blue Peru" / "Blue Peru" or Blue Peru Redfin Tetra.

To the best of my knowledge, it came in before and the aquarium that made the import is tropical fish international.

I understand it's been around for ten years or so. I can't get them now though, I checked with our main importer. he doesn't order them anymore.

Or I would be getting some ! I like that fish.

Not too sure on that, I thought this was a recent discovery within the recent couple of years. Oh well, in any case, there are close to a dozen species of characins that look similar to the fish in picture.

Do you remember under what trade name was it sold?

Hmm... I am not sure it's the same fish. "Purple tetra" is a common name used for Hyphessobrycon loretoensis, which were indeed available around 2 to 3 years ago, so I do think this is the fish you are referring to.

Otherwise, another possibility is H. cf. metae (http://www.aquaticquotient.com/forum...ad.php?t=31719), which under certain lighting and conditions, look not dissimilar to the fish in question.

Species of the H. heterorhabdus complex can sometimes be confused with each other.

The fish in question shows vivid deep red fins in good conditions, not as dark (blackish) as shown in some of the pictures above. Here is a picture which shows the distinct red fins (although taken with flash), http://aquatab.net/blog/tetra-hyphes...-blue-peru.htm

Peruvian Suppliers trade name for loretoensis is just Hypessobrycon loretoensis probably because its no longer a relative new species in the market.

Metae is from "Rio Orinoco" and its unlikely it will come from a peru as peruvians traders traditionally prefer exporting peruvian fishes.

    its Hyphessobrycon.
why I don't do garden hybrids and aquarium strains: natural species is a history of Nature, while hybrids are just the whims of Man.

Yes, what you mentioned is very possible of course.

However, I did not mention H. metae. It's H. cf. metae, don't know the species and don't know where this fish comes from at all.
