This being quite a common product, I am sure you can find it at all major LFS near Panda Land.

I'd like to see the studies

that Stress Coat has under it's belt, proving that Aloe actually does anything at all for fish. Dr John Gratzek says he is satisfied that aloe speeds healing of wounds. So where is this study to be seen ?

If it actually does coat the fish, is it actually beneficial, and what about the gills ? Is coating gills with aloe a good thing ?

Basic question : where is the evidence ?

Salt itself would stimulate your fauna to produce slim but its unfavorable for the plants.

Fishes produce slime when they are irritated (physically, not emotionally).
Salt is one of those irritants.
Stress coat is supposed to help fishes produce the slime coating without the irritation. But like what raglan pointed out, this claim is not backed up by scientific proof.

my african cichlids flashed like bats out of h
when i used to heavily dose on stress coat, out of chloramine fears
    oh yes it can irritate
and produces organic waste a bit of scum in the water. never killed them though
they flashed so badly on stress coat that i thought they had some parasite.
i would medicate, they would stop flashing [no wc going on] and then when i resumed normal operation, big time wc because of high stocking levels, they resumed flashing.
i was not swift enough to realize the connection
