Barbour's Seahorses and Black King Kong Shrimps

Hiyo everyone,

Was watching the news today and saw the black king kong shrimp:

Found the photo on internet:
http://www.shanghaidaily.com/sp/arti...cle_418775.htm

it is selling for US$830. Raised by Taiwan breeders. Thought I share it with everyone.

Re: Barbour's Seahorses and Black King Kong Shrimps

I am no shrimp collector. I hope to collect different tetras, of course they have to mix with each other so penguin tetra is out of the equation.

Re: Barbour's Seahorses and Black King Kong Shrimps

those who knows me know what I think of line bred creatures and worst, hybrids. read my signature to see why

however, I am OK if people wish to blow a lot of money of whatever they fancy. The only reason I am saying this is for those who might be inclined to develop an infatuation for these pretty creatures. yes they are pretty, just like fancy guppies (I do like them) but is there an instrinsic value in them?

this is just like the luohan fish, a creation of humans and then whipped into a frenzy with unearthly prices. buyers aware.

Re: Barbour's Seahorses and Black King Kong Shrimps

Ummm...when I say mix I meant having golden tetra, golden zebra, cardinals, blue lamp eye, together, not cross breed.

If I know the fish have been genetically modified I will not buy too. Don't buy don't create market >> no market >> one less genetically modified fish. Who know how many generations of fish died just to create a genetically modified one.

Re: Barbour's Seahorses and Black King Kong Shrimps

don't worry I wasn't referring to your "mix tetra" I know what you meant.

I am still ranting about the shrimps and the "heavenly" prices ;@)

Re: Barbour's Seahorses and Black King Kong Shrimps

The news is as of 7/11, I still have no clue how the King Kong are being breed actually, so you might be right. Sicali (What if) they use ink to inject the shrimps?

US$830 for a single "Black King Kong" shrimp is just

They're probably nice to the person who bought them, but for a shrimp, that's just insane. I wonder how many lobsters can I eat with US$830..

Re: Barbour's Seahorses and Black King Kong Shrimps

A good way to use King Kong shrimp to predict 4D. Mark 0 to 9 on their bodies and see which one die, use the number to buy 4D.

They are not easy shrimp at all.

Aiyoh, then the 4D should not stand for "4 Digits"; it should stand for "4 Dead".

Re: Barbour's Seahorses and Black King Kong Shrimps

Found this website in Japan selling these Black King Kong shrimp:

http://cozypara.ocnk.net/product/493
http://cozypara.ocnk.net/product/492
http://cozypara.ocnk.net/product/473

198k Yen each.. that's like 3.1k SGD (2.2k USD) each..

They had others at 138k, 128k and 98k Yen for these other black shrimp they called Black Shadow Shrimp:

http://cozypara.ocnk.net/product/377
http://cozypara.ocnk.net/product/376
http://cozypara.ocnk.net/product/400

That's 2.14k, 2k and 1.5k SGD roughly, per shrimp price.

And I thought people paying USD 830 per shrimp as per that article was insane, this shop's prices takes the cake on total shrimp madness.

Food to one, is poison to another.

If one can jolly well afford, spluging such money is no foolish act. When one couldn't, green eye monster could eat them alive.

I couldn't afford, thus shall sit back and enjoy e pix

Re: Barbour's Seahorses and Black King Kong Shrimps

Even when it comes to splurging $$, there must be limits. The price for these shrimps reminds me of the extravagance this one lady in China lavished to show off her new Tibetan Mastiff.

As for envy, yes we envy the people who can spend such $$ on these expensive critters, but we get a good laugh too when the shrimp go belly up within 24 hours if something goes wrong.

The Japanese have always been this crazy for new and "special" things, but 3.1K SGD for a single puny shrimp is just pure insanity.

Re: Barbour's Seahorses and Black King Kong Shrimps

no I do not envy people who spend a huge amount of $$ to get a shrimp that was created by human efforts. but I do envy people who spend a huge amount of efforts (regardless of $$) to go to the most unreacheable wilderness to get creatures that hardly anyone has seen before.

eg this I really envy http://www.aquaticquotient.com/forum...ad.php?t=62175

Ahem...Silane,
I think that was what being thought about Luohan fish 5 years ago.
Next thing you know, lets throw all the number balls onto the water surface and see which one the fish touch. 1st 4 will form your lucky number

Stormy,
Got include transport fee? hee hee.

Choy,
I think time for you to donate some of your blood. Lets hope the mosquitoes are of the AB+ blood type...lol.

Re: Barbour's Seahorses and Black King Kong Shrimps

hwchoy, no I do not envy people who spend a huge amount of $$ to get this snot size shrimp to impress their colleague or friends. but I do envy people who spend a huge amount of efforts (regardless of $$) to stablise and refine creatures that hardly anyone has seen before, not even create my mother nature and this is not something hybrid.

It is the skills, the method, knowledge and know how, they are able to keep the mutation, usually weak, alive and bring them to adulthood and breed.

Those pieces that shown in Japanese website and pricing are realistic, as the size of shrimps are big and the sacrity of the pattern is more, these shrimps are weak, ones own some shrimps, do not means they will breed or even grow up. Hence these shrimps size is proportional to price, maybe like pleco, proportional to length.

I think of cheaper way, just 10 balls, no need fish, see which one float up first.
