I hv bought about 20 of the harlequin about 2 days ago.
a few of them started to hv white color growth on the front of the lower jaw and the fishes become unable to eat and die.
More fishes seem to be continuously affected.
What could be the cause of this?
    thanks.

I also have this problem initally when I bought my harlequin. The disease can spread to other fishes such as betta, otto...

not very sure about the cause.

sounds like mouth-rots, very serious! happens to a batch of nearly-purchased altum i got a year ago. treated them with sera baktopur tablets; the rots healed, but the 5 fishes died within a week of tratment.

half gone[10 out of 20 bought] within 2 days panic
quickly readup on the natural habitat of the Harlequin. Found that they like peat extract...quickly squeeze in some tetra blackwater extract...the mortality rate seems to stabilise...the remaining 10 are still ok not showing any sign of whitening. thankGod.

i hv previously bought 5 to put in my office aquarium, one of them gone the next day due to the same problem. Subsequently got another 10 to add in... were ok for those 10...so didnt expect it could be so bad when i got the 20 for my home tank.

btw, dont know whether coincident or the blackwater extract really helps.
