is removing the plants affected an option? excel bombing is risky but could affect the fauna in your tank
Hey bros,
just got into the hobby of planted tanks and was out of town for a month. When i got back this was what i found!! From what i have read on the forum, this should be a really really really bad case of BBA. Some of the solutions i have read are to use excel? Not really sure what i should do now.
Tank at 1.5ft
CO2 abt 1 BPS

i vote rescape!if you have the resources, why not..
but it is important to know how to get rid of the algae....a good lesson to learn in my opinion
-=I work in the dark to serve the light=-
I will rescape if I were you
Definitely vote for rescape.
What is your tank size?
50 x 35 x 35
Yeah gonna do a rescape. haha now comes the fun part! coming up with new ideas on what to do.
hmmmm was wondering, if i were to do a rescape is there a chance that some of the BBA be left in the tank or the filter media? im gonna use new substrate and everything else but wondering if the media in the filter from this tank could introduce BBA into a rescaped tank. really hate that stuff...
It depends on your next scape parameter condition, everything is on your hand whether you activate them back or keep them passive.
algae spores are everywhere, you cant get rid them as long there's water.
I agree... you have to review your current tank conditions (ie. nutrients, lighting, Co2, flora, fauna etc) to see what could have gone off-balance to allow so much BBA to grow in just a month. if the same conditions are repeated again, the BBA could return anytime.![]()
I had a very bad case of BBA last time too. It grew all over my Java ferns. I tried dosing excel on the affected areas but it was just too many. In the end i have up, got rid of the affected plants and did a rescape.
I know that long durations of lights will cause green spot algae easily but as for BBA, i also will like to know the root cause. Could it also be that you left your lights on too long? Also you should take into consideration, even if your tank lights are off, is the tank still exposed to the sunlights or your rooms lights?
Just my own opinions.
Cheers!
Measurement is not really necessary for planted tank, I never measure mine either. In my opinion measurement is only important for your fauna. For planted tank you need to have good substrate, it will safe you lots of trouble, and plenty of CO2.
how many hour light and co2 you on?new tank can't on the light and co2 more than 6 hours , it will have alots of algae come visit your tank. correct me if i was wrong
