Isn't this the same as regular planting wire (green color) commonly sold at flower/plant nursery stores?

bro Stormhawk could be right. If it is indeed so, it may rust. If the purpose is to tie ferns, moss etc. just buy thin fishing line - the transparent type.

After spending much money on "specialist" equipment & food, I realise that cheaper substitutes are almost always available & are even better.

Same with this thing if one end of the wire is exposed though. If you can seal the ends of the cheap planting wire with epoxy resin or silicone, I doubt it'll rust underwater.
