I am using 12 degree beam angle, par 30 LED spotlight bulbs. 30Watts each. 8 of them to illuminate a 9ft(long)X1.5ft(depth)X1.5ft(height) tank. Cool white.
forgot the temp and the lumen count.

Its a new tank in planning. bought the stuff, installed.. looks to be bright enough. not sure if it will work. (cross fingers)

    Can advise ?
branding, as in generic china ones or ones from makers like phillips osram megaman. Price range, no need exact.

btw, that's a big tank to test on. Kudos to you

My lights are mounted unto the ceiling. the tank will be shorter height in placement. after some math, 11 degrees was ideal. since there is no such thing (china firm told me...) as 11 degree spot lamps i went for 12.

I bought 10 bulbs, generic make, CREE chips from china. approx 50 USD each. its e27 base and i had to hire an electrician to properly space and mount them up unto the ceiling.

No pics yet. now trying to get equipment. only tank, canister, wave maker and lights are in place.

12 degree might be to narrow ? i got this par38 spec from a reefer site

    60° optics = 12" square spread, reaching 2ft deep
    90°optics = 14' square spread, reaching 1.3ft deep

might differ thou due to different spec

Sorry, did not see the reply on this thread.

12 degrees is because the lights are mounted up on the ceiling, pointing down. distance from lamp to tank base is about 2m. with 10% diffraction, i guesstimate 30 watts is enough.

If you are looking for high tech planted tank, you would probably want to go for branded stuff.
