I am currently using the Borneo stainless steel in/outflow. Noticed there's a layer of oil/protein on my 2ft tank. Google and found some, example:

    1. Stainless steel inflow with skimmer (extremely expensive):http://www.ebay.com/itm/Aquarium-Sta...-/161030570146

    2. ADA Electronic Skimmer (also extremely expensive)

    3. Tom's surface skimmer (Not sure if it is available in Singapore).

Question is, based on your experience are there any small and pleasant looking surface skimmer in local market, or even simple D.I.Y project?

I don't see myself scoping the layer out manually as a long term solution

There are many cheaper plastic surface skimmer in the market $12 and above. I am using Eheim Surface Skimmer, but at night it will suck my fishes while they sleep.. haha.. so depend on the size of your fishes and choose the correct size.. I already have 2 fishes sucked in and dead.. :-(

Yes.. that 3535000.. But i still using it.. There is a lever on top to turn the skimmer function on or off.. when the water surface is oily, I just turn the skimmer on.. Else it is always push down to off it.

I was also using the eheim surface skimmer bought from seaview. Works really well and cleared the surface within a few hours. Sadly, I have about 5 shrimps being sucked in during the night and I quickly remove the skimmer. The powerhead for the skimmer is put to good use for my pico marine tank haha.

Sea View selling $67 after 15% is $56.95. Today happen to passby there and saw it, kept behind the cashier counter.

There is actually another method apart from using a surface skimmer. IMHO, all you need to do is to agitate the surface of the water. As long as there is minmal current on the surface, oil firms might not form up afterall. Seniors, do correct me if I am wrong.

Personally, I find that the below DIY can be used and placed inline with the surface to create movement:

there is another video on a DIY surface skimmer you might wish to consider:

Yeah! Saw this at Nanyang Seaview in the afternoon. There is still a 10% discount for accessories above S$10.
