    Hi guys,

    Have a question.

My glosso is not carpeting, however, is growing upwards. Planted on the 31st August. Why is this so?

Is it that the lighting is not strong enough?

Lighting: Up "Z" Series - 8Hrs per day
    Co2: 1-2 bps
    Ferts: Lushgro Micros + others

up aqua! series led is pretty weak for led. need 2 of that for testing and carpet since they uses led with very low output (less than 1w each I think)

carpet glosso needs strong light along with trimming to train them to grow low. (according to someone who told me that)

    Hello,

I don't know the type of lights you are using, but based on Berny's comment on the light set, you may not be having enough intensity. Having said that, you did not mentioned the height of the tank. Light intensity to the bottom of the tank increased if you have a short tank.

Next is Duration. 8 hours is a bit on the short side. Try bumping you duration to at least 9 to 10 hours. A word of caution, duration does not compensate for insufficient intensity.

Lastly, your CO2. Check if you have enough dissolved CO2 in your water column and ensure you have good water circulation. Glosso has a tendency to grow upwards if you have unbalanced CO2 distribution that is not circulated to them.

according to this thread, the LED bulb is super weak. 0.06watt each. Even though there's many bulb in each lamp, the penetration strength isn't enough, which is why, east ocean aquatic actually uses 2 of each LED lamp in a tank.

glosso growing upward is a clear sign it is reaching for light. if withing 14days still same.
indicates your lighting is not good/strong enough and need to look at it.

I second this. I had the same issue before.

great advice guys. I will monitor and keep a lookout for lights as well.

Obyssea Evo 3w Led would be the perfect one!

Just to add, sometimes glossos are already at the verge of vertical growth upon purchase, so they will continue to grow in this manner after planting. Can try trimming off the verticals and see if they start growing sideways. If not lighting is the problem.

sometimes planting it the lazy way and leaving too much will make glosso grow upwards awhile then it starts to bend. im a prime example for that.

    Re: Glosso growing upwards

Just to share my experience, i've used the Up Aqua Z-Series LED lights on my tanks and planted glosso before, they grew upwards initially after planting but eventually grew low (and stayed low) after i trim them... so those lights are actually sufficient for growing a glosso carpet in tanks (at least for those up to 36cm height).

But if you have a tank with much taller height, then i'd agree that higher power LED lights would be required to maintain the intensity all the way down to substrate level.
