Tips for cycling shrimp tanks.

What are your practices on cycling new setups for shrimp tanks, are they the same as you do for planted or fish? I.e, duration and what do you look out for, as long as one cycle is complete, you introduce the "commandos" in? After that monitor for how long and how often, looks like most are weekly. All comments/advise are welcome.

Understand from experts here from their postings that bb is super important hence dosing bacteria products seems like a norm. What's the experience in maintainence of your water condition, some say if it ain't broke don't fix it. Got shrimp die then see what happen la,

Hi TS,

Cycling tank is same for fish/shrimp/planted.

Maintaining water condition differs between hardy type and sensitive types of shrimps. However the parameters are similar but the hardy types are more forgiving but still a lot more sensitive than common fish.

So, you have to decide what you want to keep and do you have the time/money to keep it. Its a commitment.. and lives are at stake here.

Lastly read more and research more on what you want to keep to minimize deaths

I agree with the bros who chimed with their support above.

Patience is vital in a shrimp tank set-up for RAC based soil you can check out my blog, I kept track when using the same soil on what I did and so far I must say its been serving me well.
And on the beneficial bacteria can afford to be generous at the start of the set-up will serve you well in the long run once both benificial anearobic and aerobic colonies form up in your external cannister and sponge filters alike.

Hope you find success in your set up! Give it 2 weeks before you introduce some commandos.

I wanted to cycle for 1 month, but more of my berried ones from gc are going down, so I had to take a gamble after a one week cycle of normal water and a 8hr bacteria dose.
