With filtration I think it should clear up overnight or even earlier. Or do huge water changes over next few days to increase visibility.
hi, I'm still new to soil. I'm faced with a murky tank. From my past experience with my Nano tank, the cloudy/murky disappear overnite once the sediment settled.
Here's my second tank 60x25x25.
Question: How long will it take to clear up with tank this measurement, from past experience ?
I did place the plastic method not to disturb together soil, however still it got murky.

Thank you in advance.

Since it's new and there's nothing inside, for my tank i siphoned 90% of the water, it's such a hassle but definitely worth it
Thanks all, I did siphoned about 90%(less disturbance) yesterday which is the current photo. guess I be patient and wait. hmm first occurrence with a wider tank
Did you wash it ? The last time i had the same cloudiness as your tank, i waited a week and it's roughly the same.
Wah, you should use some newspaper or plastic bag as buffer when you pour in water...
switch on filtration and wait... thats all you can do now...![]()

nah, not yet.. the pic above is today's status..
I uses airline tubing to fill, outflow is stuck to the wall and also as close to substrate as possible, did that till about 20-30% then I use a Tupperware cover to cushion the impact while I fill up the rest with a normal hose from tap, minimal disturbance to substrate and no cloudy water

sometimes the soil causes such murkiness, no matter how careful we are. I personally assume that my tanks all start out like that, so i always have this small submerged filter that runs off a 100 micron sponge. I run it for a few hours to clear the larger debris in the water before turning my main filter on. works 100% of the time. its a small boyu filter. I use it for my 1, 1.5, 2, 3 feet tanks.

I noticed that if water is poured directly onto dry ADA aquasoil, the water still tends to get cloudy even if it was added using newspaper or plastic sheet to cushion the flow.
The method i've found to get 100% clear water at startup is to mist the soil until its damp, then add the plants, then slowly fill the tank with water (like how amano does it for his ADA gallery tanks). Even better, use a silicone air hose and valve, then drip in the water over a period if an hour or so to fill up the tank, that will confirm get clear water from the start.
Here is an example of how i fill my tanks that use ADA aquasoil:

Just takes abit more time to drip fill the tank, but then can see the scape clearly and no need to do so many extra water changes to clear the cloudy water.![]()

with time you can make is as easy![]()
Hi Fabian Lee, do mean the Ada soil should wash first before adding water at the start. As I am going to start setting up my tank today.

Sorry I was asking for advice. That do I have to wash the Ada soil first before adding it into the tank?
