Hi I just bought a glass tank 2nd hand and my dad says it is dangerous because it does not have bracing.
Anyone use glass tank that looks like this before and is it really dangerous? uploadfromtaptalk1390661695939.jpg

And is there anything I can do to make it safer to use?

    Hi.
    Define dangerous?
It all depend on the workmanship of the tank maker and how the 1st owner take care of it.
I have seen tank with braces leak,so to answer your question, why not fill up the tank with water and let it sit
    for a couple of days.
Here is a 800lt tank with no braces.

Small tanks do not really need bracing. Tanks from 20Gallons upwards usually have bracing. As zerofighter has pointed out, not all large tanks need bracing no worries...tanks do not leak so easily unless they are very very old...or of low quality^^

While the tank in question is quite large (or your plant is smallXD!!! Joking...) it looks very new...no algae stains on the silicon, glass looks like it's low steel too^^ Manufacturers do not create a tank with good quality glass but cheap silicon^^ I wouldn't worry

I will suggest u sell the tank and get one with braces instead if it makes him feel better.
The problem with used tanks is that you don't know how long it has been used. It is a mistake to treat an old tank as a new tank. An old tank is probably having weak seals and may leak anytime. The leak may not be big, but usually aquarium leaks are not noticeable because they only leak very slowly drop by drop. It is not noticeable until it is too late to do anything.

To be safe, it's always better to buy a new tank.

    Low iron glass?

Crystal Glass/Low Iron glass suppose to be clearer.

The tank is quite scratched so I don't think is low iron. Then better not use then.
