This might sound like a heresy to a lot of you. It was a big surprise for us as well. We sort of knew that ammonia and nitrites should not be toxic in acidic conditions but did not know that even though your test kits read out of scale levels your shimp will be perfectly safe**
We have tried it with different shrimp and different active soils, Ebi Gold and ADA malaya to be precise. 5 different tanks and 3 shrimp species. Not a single casualty or any other sign of stress.
So as long as your PH is under 7 and you are using acive soil you can add shrimp after a week or even earlier**.

An advice probably would be not to perform to large water changes with tap water as this might potentially cause ph torise above 7 and water becoming toxic?
Any comments and/or corrections more than welcome.

i read that thread before. basically what its saying is
    1. ammonia is toxic to fish in NH3 form.
    2. in acidic waters, NH3 form ammonia is lower, while NH4+ (also ammonia) is higher
    3. test kits measure NH3 and NH4+ concentration.
    4. so test kits only tell you half the story. depending on how acidic your water is, the amount of NH3 in the water may not be toxic enough to kill.

But i still believe, if the ammonia level is high, something is wrong with the tank water. nothing beats water change.

    thats my 2 cents.
I am balding but i am still young!

At facebook. There was a discussion on lowkeys aquatailor slab made up of zeolite. Which will absorb ammonia. Then there was a comment on. If zeolite absorbs ammonia, then there is no nitrogen cycle. So therefore to say, one can actually get 1 or 2 slab. Setup a brand new tank with anti chlorine with brand new filter media's and introduce shrimps thru dripping acclimatize straight away. Of course zeolite WILL be exhausted along the way. Bacterial good or bad won't thrive in low ph water either

This is a way of setting up a emergency tank that have high bioload. Sorry for hijacking!

But what are your thoughts on it?

Recent studies shows that putting recent studies in your statement have a higher percentage of trust people put into your recent studies. What?
